Rog - I am no expert but I would expect the thrust bearing to more likely make a noise (rattle or squeal) as you depress or release the clutch pedal. Rattle as you engage drive sounds more like the DMF. You may also feel a small lurch like a double engagement. Either way, it is gearbox out. You could live with the thrust bearing for a short while. The DMF is more serious. Get it all changed at the same time (clutch assy, DMF, thrust bearing & slave cylinder).

I have not had it done myself. On here Forum members have reported prices of 」700 - 」900 for indys & 」1,000 - 」1,300 for LR Dealers. Get it checked by a specialist (or two) first. If just the thrust bearing you may be able to live with it for a while. Then get some quotes locally. There must be some small indys in Mansfield!

My Indy has just charged me 200 for an A service. My clutch is just starting to go. Indy has quoted me 1000 pounds all in for clutch and DMF. I can provide my own clutch and DMF and then the Indy would charge 500 pounds for the labour. Advanced Factors, site sponsor, can provide a 3 piece clutch kit and DMF for about 300 pounds.

What did he say they were then? TATA's ? ![]() Bit like when I had an X Type Jag, the garage didnt like working on them much because they were Mondeo's as they put it. |

Perhaps the local LR Specialist isn't quite as "specialist" as he thinks he is then!

he has focused on all the defenders, from total rebuilds to routine servicing, and the same for Disco 1 & 2, the Disco 3 & 4 and P38/L322 RR he can/will do most things on them and has the diagnostic tools to suit as well as remap.

Nice position to be in where he can pick and choose variants. I suppose that his train of thought will also preclude Evoque L538, RRS L494, FFRR L405 and pretty much anything since 2012?
