Tyres

Is it ok to mix different tyre brands eg Goodyear on front & Michelin on rear ? As I have Goodyear Wranglers on now but have picked up a nail & the tyre can not be repaired. Reason I am asking Costco can do me a good deal on a pair of Michelin Latitudes.

Not advisable !!!!
If you have too be very confident that their rolling diameters are the same as there can be up to 10% difference between same sizes of different brands and that's before wear differences.
Again, not recommended in AWD. MY15

I'd say it was okay to do so. Recently changed mine to a set of same make tyres all round but there had been different pairs of tyres, front and rear, for ages. No problems - that's what the haldex is for, isn't it? I think it wasn't advisable on the FL1 with the viscous coupling. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong!

As I said unadvisable from a vehicle and safety points of view!
Different tyres/treads can have widely different charteristic which can affect the normal handling characteristics of a vehicle which has been set up with tyres of all the same design/brand/tread pattern etc!
Haldex! Well it's not designed for the purpose of running different size tyres, particularly when it's engaged, even on Tarmac! (As it is from standstill)
The tyres are the most fundamental safety feature on your vehicle, if your want to ignore their significance then all the other safety features of your Freelander 2, ABS, DSC etc are only as good as the weakest link - your tyres!!!
Your choice! MY15

Ours was approved Jlr and came with different tyres front and rear but the same on each axle.

18 months gone by now with no problems.

Can't see a problem personally. Obviously the car is going to perform better with all tyres matched but will you notice? Probably not.

Just put the new ones on the front and everything will be ok. I have run for some 2 years with that setup. After all, what's the point of a spare if the rolling size is a problem, are we expected to ensure we plane them down before fitting!

The haldex will do its start up routine about every half mile or so if you put the new axle set on the rear as the rolling diameter is less so it will try to detect wheel slip.

As for handling, unless you are going to drive like Lewis Hamilton and put the tyres under extreme stress, the car should handle just fine and you will most likely never even notice, I know I don't.  MY2014 SD4 XS

I don't think cosco would replace 2 tyres in a 4x4 as I talked to them before my dealer replace all 4 tyres.
My car is a LR approved vehicle and the dealer had to replace the 2 budget tyres they fitted before delivery.
I contacted LR service and the dealer about the issue of different tyres and they agreed to change.

The story is in the link below:

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic23109.html

I suspect vehicles having issues with their diff. mostly due to owners not being careful with the tyres!

Everything will be fine until you have an accident or a mechanical issue!! It has been known for insurance companies to reject a claim for fitting mis-match tyres. I've seen a claim voided because of this.
Tyre manufacturers do not recommend this, even same brand/different tread pattern is frowned at!

The manual says its not advisable but if it must be done as the original type cannot be easily obtained for whatever reason then fit the same make on the same axle.

My old Freelander 2 was a company car and as most know they wont change a tyre until they absolutely have to and its down to the bare minimum tread, however the Freelander was one where if one needed changing they authorised the lot because as they said they didnt want gearbox and axle problems cropping up a few thousand down the line because they didnt keep the tyres matched, now if they say that then it must be necessary??

Back in the early 70's my wife had a Ford Escort provided for her job as a social worker, it used to go into the local police garage workshops every 10k miles for servicing. It always came back with brand new tyres, can't imagine why they needed to change them or what happened to the old ones. Shocked 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thank you for all your input to this post, I have now ordered two Goodyear Wrangler's then all four corners will have the same make & model tyre, just for peace of mind.
