Hi there, there is no tourist lever on your headlights. All MY13 FL2 headlights (in fact all JLR group car headlights from MY13 onwards), whether they are Halogen, Xenon or Adaptive Xenon have what is referred to by the headlamp designers as the "optical tourist solution". They require no mechanical adjustment for driving on the other side of the road, nor do they require any sort of beam deflectors to be fitted. The lenses of the headlights have been designed to a certain exacting tolerance, so that when travelling on the opposite side of the road they do not cause any dazzle for drivers of oncoming vehicles. This doesn't mean that the headlights are universal and can be used permanently for driving on the opposite side of the road. It is purely meant as a temporary measure,much as holidays, etc. The dipped beam cut off of UK headlights still rises to the left -----\____and on EU headlights it rises to the right ____/------. It was suggested on another forum that when travelling abroad with lights that do not require adjustment you could carry in your car a piece of paper with a translation of the headlight instructions from your owners manual, in whichever language they use in the country you're travelling in. It could be kept within your owners manual and shown to a police officer if ever you were stopped because they noticed your car wasn't fitted with beam deflectors. Hope this helps. Paula |

Thank you Paula, I opened the left hand side headlight and identified that it is halogen and there isn't a tourist lever as you said. Unfortunately my car manual mentioned this lever so your idea of a piece paper of translation about not requiring any deflector etc. won't work in my case. I may have to stick a deflector on each side so as not to get to trouble with their laws! |

No problem, Paxman. Land Rover are not known for the accuracy of their owners manuals, lol. I have just checked the MY13 and the MY14 handbooks on Topix and indeed the MY14 version states that the beam pattern of the headlights is suitable for driving on eiither side of the road and that no mechanical adjustment/beam deflectors are necessary. I can also see from the MY13 version that it gives incorrect information about the tourist lever being present, which it certainly is not, ..well done LR! Paula |

You are breaking no laws, it is an offence only if you dazzle oncoming traffic, there is no offence in not having deflectors. Mine is MY13 also and deflectors do not work on the headlamp glass, it is flat beam with slight kickup. PM Ryan@Landrover and keep the EMail he will send you as proof if needed.

You won't have one. LR insist that the lights are OK for Europe (as stated above), but they are still triangular beam. If you're not sure (and I'm not happy with this) you can buy a beam deflector kit from Halfords. The only problem is centring it on the light. Choose "projector headlamp" setting - the kit will tell you which configuration to use and how to fit.

Worries worries worries,I recently bought a set of new xenon headlights for my 2012 landy. Advertised as LHD but with a lever to make it legal to drive in the U.K. when parking up at a mate last night (coincidently first time using new light at night) I parked up in front of his wall and noticed it had a flat light pattern. Rather then \____ \_____this type of patten. After reading this topic I am now not sure if it will pass the MOT but reading on the 2013+ xenons have the flat pattern (is that right). All this is causing me concern because on the way home on a unlit road a on coming car was flashing there lights, was it for me or for car behind who’s lights seemed to be a bit funny. Lights were programmed in by a independent 4x4 garage that do MOTs but never said that they would fail an MOT plus he said he had to take them out and flick the lever as they where on Euro pattern. I think my main concern is dazzling on coming drivers, only one car flashed in the hour of night driving but not sure it was for me. And I really like them. so are the lights ok to keep on or illegal. GS Sd4 2012 |
