I have never disconnected a battery to charge it. Did you know that if your car has a stop/start facility you should not use an ordinary charger but a CTEK type as the battery used is designed for stop/start vehicles

It sounds like OP has a smart charger,I put mine on frequently and never disconnect the battery. |

Also Lidl sometimes have a charger about £15 some say it's the same as Ctec and may even be made by them. |

Thanks for the reply, yes mine is a smart charger so is probably ok then, as said I use it on the MINI with a stop start system and it doesnt affect anything.

unless your going away for a extended period why bother charging? if your batteries on the way out just buy a new battery a lot time effective and reliable than repeatedly charging a battery. At work

Yes I do I go away and work in Beijing for a 3 month stint every now the then. They have Freelanders out there too loads of them, but no caravans. |

Or buy a multimeter preferably an analogue one then you can see exactly how the voltage is varying with engine speed. You can also use it for other jobs. I know what you mean, no they do have genuine Freelanders, I dont mean Sang Song Ding Dongs, they have those too though. They all have chinese name badges on them like !"^:#@ |

Fl2, I've used a charger whilst the battery was connected. No problem.
