United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 TD4_e SE Manual Orkney Grey

Move the OBD port to the centre of the car where it cant be reached without triggering the alarm then fit a socket in the original place that looks like a OBD port but when its plugged into it dials the police response team up.
Whilst they are faffing around trying to get it to work the police arrive and they get nicked Thumbs Up

My sister spoke to LR about this issue on her evoke. They advised her to get an auto electrician to extend the OBD to a concealed place in car ! She's subsequently installed a tracking device.

Beats me that if LR are clearly well aware of the problem they should be doing such a modification before all future cars leave the factory! Also do a recall on those out there already! Shocked Rolling Eyes 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

What Police?? If you mean the useless 'service' that we are all accustomed to these days, then I'm afraid that they are far too busy glued to their iPads looking for offensive remarks on Twitter that cause "alarm fear and distress" and a S.5 easy nick......easy policing these days dontya know? To add some balance and accuracy:

"Useless service that we are all accustomed to these days" - A statement too sweeping to be accurate. The police can and do deliver a good service under difficult financial cuts which have lead my local force to see staff levels at their lowest since the early 80's.

Unfortunately, the inevitable stories of unprofessional and lazy officers overrides those of hard work and courage. There's no news, like bad news in the press. The good officers get tarred with the same brush but yes of course there are examples of very poor service indeed.

"Far too busy glued to their iPads looking for offensive remarks on Twitter that cause "alarm fear and distress"" - The police have a series of intelligence systems at their disposal and rely on people reporting incidents to them which can be investigated rather than actively and constantly patrolling Twitter etc.

"and a S.5 easy Nick under the Public Order "Act", introduced by Lie-bore......easy policing these days dontya know?" - S.5 is typically used when an offender swears and shouts generally in a public place. S.4 is when it is aimed at a particular person. The more relevant Act for offensive remarks on Twitter is the Malicious Communications Act 1988. The Public Order Act 1986 was introduced under a Conservative government.

Cheers Thumbs Up

first to invent a lockable obd port dust cover/false plug gets a packet of monster munch

edit . just googled and there are locking covers but high tech, , Im meaning just a simple thing to stop people reaching in through a window etc, a self tapping screw at an angle over the port would suffice.

any serious thief would just hot wire a fully locked port anyway At work

I try very hard not to rise to Censored like that, but as it's a day of rest I'll add this:

The night before last, a local parishioner dialled 999 to report his RR gone off his drive. He had a tracking system and using his iPhone was able to give the local police a recent, vague-ish location.

Within 10 minutes a single-crewed officer had found the RR and had one in custody as the number plates were being swapped over.

Clearly there's a story to tell behind your rant and you're very entitled (and welcome) to your opinion. But that's all it is.

And very clearly (to me, at least) this incident couldn't have POSSIBLY taken place in Warwickshire! You are absolutely right - there is indeed a story to tell, but anything that is published on the web these days that indicates dissent or criticism of your chosen profession leads to a knock on the door - my neighbour is living proof of that! You lot make it up as you go along. Foraging near Gaydon....

You're right, of course.

As we speak, the entire Warwickshire Constabulary are fighting over their one copy of The Sun whilst sending out for more heavily subsidised Krispy Kreme and Starbucks. Meanwhile, the cleaners are keeping a close eye on your neighbour's Twitter account.

Rolling with laughter

Hilarious. The simple fact of the matter is the barrel is full of rotten apples. You only have to google Misconduct + Warwickshire Police for evidence - even the Chief Constable is currently under investigation!

Back on topic, JLR are constantly releasing security updates to try and prevent this happening. The problem is that the criminals are always one step ahead, and aforementioned police service can't be arsed to respond when called. Foraging near Gaydon....

I don't remember the exact details but does anyone remember some years ago one of the petrol companies ran a competition where every day they published some random car reg numbers and if it was your car you could call them and get a prize of many 」k . The problem was that you needed to buy some of their fuel to get a card with the numbers on it. Some enterprising policemen realised that all they had to do was look up the numbers on the Police National Computer and call the owner and demand a reward for the information.
I recall that some PCs were jailed for misuse of police resources over this. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Yes - I remember that very well. As mentioned above, you only have to Google to find a whole catalogue of police misconduct, some even outside of Warwickshire.

I guess the problem with the police will always be that it's staffed by members of the public Whistle

That's good to know. I wasn't aware there had been constant recalls to update Range Rovers with JLR's constant security updates.

Good car thieves will indeed always be one step ahead. The problem at the moment is that any Censored from the local estates can drive one away. Still, JLR seem to be on top of it.

There's about 30,000 cops in the Met. That area has a population of 8.5 million. One in six has a criminal record.
