Freelander2 tow bar removal

Hi' All,
I am going to trade in my 2008 Frrelander2 for a nearly new model.
My question is, if I remove my tow bar which is a quite expensive removable tow hitch one.
Will the car still run ok, to drive it too the dealers?
Ie, because I have removed the tow bar wiring harness without updating the engine management data!
My second question.
The freelander I am going to buy already has a fixed tow bar in situe.
Is it common for all tow bar fixing holes to be in the same place?
Ie, so that when I come to refit my original tow bar the holes won't line up, or worst still. That they are half a hole out!
Regards in anticipation, Malc.

I removed a (non LR) tow bar from an FL2 without any issues when I sold it on.

The problem I had was that when I removed the towbar I left one bracket on the car thinking that it was part of the car when it was actually part of the towbar assembly. The result was that when I tried to sell the towbar I had an incomplete assembly which nobody wanted. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I could kick my self for not taking mine off when I sold it, would of save me a couple of ££ but would of still needed to get a new wiring kit as the old one's are not compatible with the newer FL2 The one's from MY13 onwards that is. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green
MY57 SE Stornoway Grey. Gone

Hi Malc, I guess that you want the tow bar for the new Freelie?
.
First make sure that you know what parts you must have at the end. There is likely to be a bracket on the right side chassis leg which is part of the tow bar.
.
Any electrics you have are not applicable for your new freelie so leave them in the old freelie.
.
Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes.
.
Cut off the wiring or undo the wiring from the black and grey sockets. Pull the wiring back inside the boot. Reterminate the free ends into a long terminal block one by one and then PVC tape up carefully and tuck behind the left internal panel.
.
Re-connect the battery.
.
As long as you have done all this carefully and correctly it will all be electrically safe and no need to recode.
.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards from Fred.

Hi' All,
And thanks for the replies,
Ok, seems I can leave the wiring in the car, which makes it easier.
And ok on the comments about making sure to remove all the bits that belong to the tow bracket.
"Yes" Fred, I am hoping that the tow bracket will go on the new Land Rover.
Otherwise I will sell it.
By the way gents, I am probably preaching to the converted but let me just say a few words seeing as this is only my second post. I bought my first freelander in 2011, after a mate of mine who had caravaned all over Spain and France in his auto freelander. He used to shout about its qualities all the time. I also new an old friend who had had land rovers for Years, I couldn't understand why anyone would want the same car over and over again.
I have had 3 Nissan X-trails for towing, powerless, and a crap clutch. So I thought I would get a Nissan Pathefinder, No different than the X-Trails.
I was a bit reluctant then to move to a Freelander, but I did.
Holy Mowley. I couldn't believe the difference, It pulls my caravan like there's nothing on the back of the car.
The acceleration and driving comfort are unbelievable. I absolutely love my freelander, hence the reason for updating.
Definitely now a landie fanatic.
Cheers, Malcolm.
