Thanks guys.

Plan is ramp today and wheelbearing first then if it doesn't go away.

Diff tomorow.

Best get my card out for another tanning lol

Good luck. Just FYI, if it does turn out to be the diff I think I'm right in saying that the much preferred option is for LR to do it. I think it's a tricky thing for an Indy (unless they're a LR specialist) to get right. Some have had further problems when less experienced mechanics have done diffs. Can't remember the exact details but I'm sure an evening spent searching will reveal all!

I have general grabbers on it with lots of tread the pressures are bang on as Ive just had my wheels refurbed and I checked the pressures afterwards, but it was making the noise before It went in for that doing.

Anyway the mechanic has the car now.

Cant say any so called landrover specialist is going to be any better at doing the job than the mechanic whos got the car as he lives on a farm and has owned landrovers for years and makes a living fixing them, needless to say he openly said he wont own another.

So its either take it to Guy salmon and have some teenager do it like last time or somebody I know who doesn't have to answer to a manager on making decisions and wont have a manager give me a set price for his shabby work.

No word of a lie I had guy salmon fit me a roof rack last year, after three phonecalls to me saying they were struggling to fit it I got a call to come pick the car up, I got there the rack was still laid on the floor, so two hours wait later I drive out with the rack fitted and a hefty bill for it to fall off the car on the way home, I was offered a £50 voucher off my next service with them as a result, needless to say Ive never been back and wouldn't let them service me a lawn mower so the word specialist is not something I would associate them with, maybe good at selling them but terrible at fixing them and way way overpriced.

So hopefully my friend can sort this issue, when I dropped the car off he seemed confident it will be sorted by tomorrow, and he said £260 + vat for the diff reconditioned with new bearings and resealed then new haldex oil and bearing £110 plus the oil, I reckon all in probably £450 mark, I reckon it would be at least double at Guy salmon so I will keep my fingers crossed that it cures the noise, and hopefully Ill be back up and running asap.

All sorted £310

Was the diff, the pinion bearing was totally chewed to bit, hopefully now with new haldex oil and bearing I should get some decent miles out her yet.

Good job as Ive just spent in total around £900 on it. so Im hoping that's me done for the year at least.

~Near there mate but not the Dougie dransfield guy although the farm is a stone throw over the hill.

I had my car once before to dransfield about my bootlid issue, found him a bit rude and unrespectfull of my car just slammed the boot really hard, and as expensive as Landrover themselves so Im told.

But this lad who has done my recent problem is cheaper than most places and seems a geinuine kid not phased by much, he said the diff was an easy job and only charged me about £40 labour and did it in a day.

If you need his number let me know.

Only 9k and you need the diff repair? I know of several people who had had this problem at various mileages but last weekend I met up with a relative who is a farmer with an 09 reg FL2 GS with 108k miles. He has had it from 6 months old and he said that nothing has gone wrong with it so far. It has been used as a general runabout for the farm/family.
I can only think that there is a serious quality control issue somewhere in the JLR supply chain that allows rogue components to get through to the production line. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

My diff went on my old 2010 XS at 53,000 miles, went all of a sudden from no noise to extremely noisy over 2 days, quite surprised really as the car had never been off roaded, in fact I dont think I ever selected any of the terrain response modes up to that point, that was repaired by LR under warranty and was perfect afterwards again, but then the flywheel and clutch went 3,000 miles later, again done under warranty, the car had never been roughly treated, towing or heavily loaded, I was quite surprised as you assume a Land Rover was all really heavy duty stuff? Plus it was the first car I ever had to have a clutch done on where as my previous cars had 120,000 on the clock when sold and still going fine.
Just bought another though so even that didnt put me off. Thumbs Up
