Scotland 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Stornoway Grey

Well guys thanks for your advice it is booked in with tvlr without seeing it they have said worst case scenario 670.00 but they doubt it will cost as much as that they have quoted me for every part that operates the sunrrof! Main dealer up here wouldn't give me a breakdown of the parts surprise ,surprise.
They also said whilst they were inspecting the car that my break pads were low and could do with replacing, which I questioned straight away because i had 4 new discs and pads all round fitted 2 weeks before the sunroof saga!

Sunroof in ours has just packed it in, makes a clicking / grinding sound like a stripped gear or something similar.

No way in hell i'm forking out that kind of money to fix it, has anyone done a DIY repair on these yet?

Ours was kind of stuck closed, when I went to open it it jammed and made the clicking/grinding sound.

Called up the local LR dealer "oh i've never heard of a problem with a Freelander sunroof before" Censored what?!??!1 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

OK here's a start.

If your sunroof is stuck partially open you can try to close it using a manual override of the motor.

The motor is directly above the roof light in the back seat. Pop the clear lens off, remove the plastic housing that holds the bulb, and then you are looking at the motor.

There's a 4mm hex / allen key slot, turning this turns the motor manually & adjusts the roof.

I've managed to get mine closed now, but the gearbox in the motor is definitely stripped as it clicked away while I was turning.

So i'm up for new rails and a new motor by the looks of it... Censored Censored Censored

The service advisor I spoke to told me "there is no manual override for the sunroof, just bring it in" lies lies lies.

I love Land Rovers, but I can't stand their dealers... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

The motor in mine is definitely stuffed, p/n LR019777, £248+VAT, or $530 AUD + shipping

Then there's the rails/guides, another £100 or so on top

Then it's the job of getting the whole lot disassembled, according to Topix the roof lining has to come out, then it's the fun of getting the glass out, it's a two-man job so i don't think i'll be tackling it myself.

Now i've got the roof closed i'm probably just going to disconnect the switch in the roof console and leave it as is.

No doubt the local dealers will charge $2500+ to fix this, and I can't justify that...

2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
