Screaching and grinding from turned off engine

This is a new one on me.
Wife returned FL2 to home after short journey today. She said the engine has just started making a really bad noise. I went to investigate and she was not kidding.
At first I thought power steering pump because it was coming from that area.
I turned the engine off and the noise continued, even with the key fob removed. It's coming from the front of the engine.. Any ideas Lad's.
Regards Paul

Hi
Is the throttle body at the top front of the engine?

It will definitely be the throttle body. Do a search on here. Pretty common.

England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Auto Sumatra Black

Mine did it recently, gears are stripping in the electronic throttle valve. The noise will go soon when the gears are stripped. When you turn the engine off it wont shut down smoothly. The electronic throttle valve is situated to the right hand side of the engine block, it has a metal cover over it. The part is about a 100 quid or so then about an hours fitting. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
Gone MY2010 Freelander 2 Manual TD4.e S, Alaska White.

Many thanks for the replies.
I read all the post and it seemed a strait forward job, but apparently after replacing it needs reprogramming.
This was confirmed by JCV when I booked it in.
It's only done 35.000mls. I'm thinking of starting a thread of who has got the most unreliable FL2.
Best regards Paul

Hi EYorkshire.
I would like to do this job myself, I need it back on the road ASP.
Iv'e read all the post I can find and there are some conflicting opinions here.
Alex Pescaru ( if I am interpreting one of his post correctly ) seems to agree that the thing needs resetting.
I am now somewhat confused which camp to join.
Thanks for your reply.
Regards Paul

While I have never had the need to change one myself there are many on here that have and with no setup.
Alex has two posts that contradict, I am not sure which is correct Confused perhaps he will tell us as he certainly knows his stuff. Thumbs Up

As with others... Recently DIY changed mine and that was an easy job done. Old one off, new one on, no re-programming, adjusting or other faffing about with it. Engine now now shuts down properly and quietly - no more embarrassing head turning clattering or screeching Very Happy
