Hi all, would anyone know the general LR Mot pricing for the Freelander 2? That time is coming around again and not sure if its worth booking the Mot with LR or just use a normal place.

Mechanically it's a normal car so a normal garage gets my vote.

I would reccomend that first you ask all friends where they take their cars at mot time. I would rather pay full price where I know that I'm getting a genuine expert to do the job rather than a high street discount cheapie who is likely to get his money back on expensive repairs.

First may I suggest you do the following:-
1/. Get a friend to walk around the car and check all the light bulbs work.
Check rear number plate bulbs for brightness, they often go black!
Check all indicator bulbs; they are painted with an orange laquer that goes transparent with time, it also flakes off so look at rears that are too white/orange.
2/. Check tyres pressures and for tread depth
3/. Fill the washer bottle full and test back and front washers work. (AND headlamp washers if fitted).
4/. Check the wiper blade ends for splits, if found order new ones from Dan at Duckworths , (avoid motor spares cheapies).

With these smaller items checked and sorted your real risk is the handbrake.

I took our two FL2s for MOTs last month to Yeovil LR as they are under extended warranty with MOT cover. They charge £45 while you wait and drink their coffee. Both went through OK with no issues apart from one needing a headlamp adjustment which they did at no charge.

PS both cars had eBay cheapo wiper blades fitted. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Take it to a council run place. They don't do repairs so can't rip you off.

Hate to say it but took mine to local Halfords testing station where I was able to watch them do the test. Cost was £30 I think (rather than the max cost levied by Stratstones last year which made for a VERY expensive cup of coffee). I will do the same again next year as couldn't find fault with what nor how it was done.

I made it ver clear I was there for the test only and that I wouldn't be having my car serviced or fixed by them as I wanted LR stamps in my service record but in honesty I don't believe for a second that made any difference.

Mine has gone to Kwik Fit for Mot. I know they have a poor reputation but I have had no problem with them. The last 3 MOTs were £30 and I had no faults or advisories.

90% of the lights where changed over this winter so they are all good, rear brakes were also done and to the handbrake shoes, all new wipers fitted 2 weeks back Guess the only thing they might moan about is the front discs and maybe tire tred but they all seem to be legal, those two things will get changed as and when i have the money

Like said above if it failed they would not get to repair it, would be done myself then taken back

£30 Kwik Fit job for me the other week, no issues and they can't check a huge amount due to the shielding under the car anyway.

£35 at the indy garage I use.

Mine is due in July so will get it done at the same as a full service.

I know it wont be dealer stamped but will be quality parts and guarenteed that everything will be done up to or above LR specs.

I've never had a dealer do an MoT - they have all driven it down the road to a local indy. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
