I think for once the UK has the right idea, all new model cars come with daylight running lights, but older models are left alone. Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

No, the best idea would have been to not fit them, can you honestly say in the middle of the day, from a distance that the DRL can be seen before you see the vehicle. Odd has it is, it is only a requirement to have them fitted here, as far as I am aware it is not a legal requirement to use them.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I talked to a few local distributors and read the full maintenance manual of the Freelander 2; but I'm afraid there's nothing they can do from the "programming" point of view which solves my issue: they could "bridge" the Auto sensor that indicates the lights when to turn on and leave the front ones on; but then I would need to activate them manually every time I went into a tunnel / at night; which I would most likely forget since I the front ones would always be on... In the best scenario I get a fine, in the worse I cause an accident...

They also offered to replace my fog lights with DRL, but I would lose the fog lights, which I'd rather not as Switzerland tends to get foggy from time to time...

Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Is there anyone that installed DRL himself and would be kind enough to tell me how to do it ? The OSRAM LEDriving Fog is my preferred alternative; but I would like to have someone's input on how to build it without dismantelling the whole front of my car. My wife already warned me that she would not drive with me with the bumper on the trunk to explain the dealer that I'm an idiot ! Rolling with laughter

Thank you very much once again for your feedback !

The osram ledriving fog would fit for your need, I'm going to make a better installation guide this weekend if the weather in sunny Bolton is nice as another member has asked me to if I can. The only things that need to come of the car are the 2 fog lights and both head light for wiring and hiding the control box, and a few extra parts as some of the power wires are to short.
Parts needed are 12 strand wire (speaker cable) crimps or soldering iron, and a piggyback fuse if i remember rightly and some extra small cable ties I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION
HST BODY KIT
OSRAM LED DRIVING FOGS

I think it strange the EU have legislated to standardise on some things like DRL's, but haven't on MOT's and Headlights ON.

I was considering installing DLR's but then realised that, as an add-on to older models, they would always look like a bodge job similar as putting a row of spotlights across the front grill, as some do to pretend they are Rangers.

I now drive with headlights ON and note an increasing number of others do too, making the car just as, if not more, visible than DLR's. This is especially noticeable on the roads leading to and from Dover.

The style of driving will have far more influence on mpg than extra alternator use.

I have the same mixed feelings re adding DLRs to my 2010MY - the Osrams are interesting though, especially at the price from AF.

Cucufate - your dealer is indeed a fool - as you can see from my IID BT tool there is a setting for Canadian style DRL as standard and can be changed with suitable tool, eg Autologic, IID, Nanocom or dealer tool. I have chosen to retrofit OEM 2013 signature strip DRLs.

Hi Jim NI!
I'm very interested in the "tool" your using and would really like to know more about how you access this info and with what if you'd be kind enough to let me know or point me in the right direction.
So am I correct that this device would allow me to configure the vehicle how I'd want it? For example, in Australia the Global closing feature for all windows is deactivated due to safety regulations, I would be able to reconfigure myself? Using an iPhone for example?
Thanks mate!

Stuart - the settings can be accessed and edited by any of the tools mentioned above. These are settings in the CCF ( Car Configuration File) I use GAP Diagnostic IID BT which connects via Bluetooth to my iPad, my pic earlier shows current options available for CCF, more will be added as it is currently under development. Basically I select the parameter I want to change and then select the required setting from a list of available options. Here's some screenshots of DRL and global settings options (can only show 3 options at time in screenshot as its a rotating scroll selection method)

The IID BT is an excellent tool and I would highly recommend it. Thumbs Up

I believe, however, that it is not (yet) able to program the global open/close feature on a 2014 FL2. Wink

It's always being developed at a very fast pace though and the support from GAP is great. Thumbs Up Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Thxs guys I'm really interested in this and I've sent an email off for info, where to purchase as there wasn't anything on ebay!
Interestingly the Global open/close windows is for both on your screen dump or is there other options available that you couldn't display?
I can currently drop all windows from the remote key fob but can't close and was advised by dealer that this is disabled in Australia for safety reasons. But was advised on QT they could reconfigure (but no responsibility taken).
I have a MY15, maybe this is another feature not available yet??

Sorry to hijack this topic but back to the original subject I saw a Freelander coming towards me the other night and noticed not only was its low beam active but also it's DRL's which on mine are inactive when low beam is on??
I have HID's and wasn't sure if the approaching FL2 did so thought there may be a difference between Halogen and Xenon setup? Any ideas? Seem strange to have different configuration in the same country!
