Dabbled with the dark side...but I'm back from the edge...

The last few months I've been considering switching out my FL2 for something else. It's not that I've fallen out of love, I just got the itch to change.

I considered...
- Evoque, but it's a bit too small and the gf hates the aggressive roof slope
- RRS, but the running costs / reliability issues make me nervous and it's too big
- DS but it's a bit too pricey and nervous about getting something so fresh out of the stable. Think I need a bit more time to get used to the shape too.
- D4 but it's too big / thirsty and I prefer the interiors of the RR's.
- a newer FL2, but I just don't see enough gain to justify dropping an extra 10k.
- 'other' brands but just can't find anything else that appeals to me

So after spending way too many hours on auto trader, I started looking at my trusty FL2 again and concluded she's pretty damn fine for me right now. I've had two very good years with her, just a rear diff issue fixed under warranty, otherwise she's been rock solid and a pleasure to own and drive.

So to scratch my itch I'm going to invest some time and money:
- give her a full valet (just ordered the latest 'wonder' polish people on detailing world are raving about)
- spray my alloys, vents and grill black to give her a bit of a makeover
- get one of those italian cubby hole replacements for the centre console area
- maybe get a vanity number plate...

Apologies for the somewhat self indulgent nature of this post, it's part of my rehabilitation back to loving FL2 Laughing FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

It's called autosmart topaz: http://www.autosmart.co.uk/New%20Products%...Topaz.html

...and here's a thread extolling it's virtues:

sure! this: http://www.woodcompany.com/freelander2007.htm

I already have arm rests but they do a narrower version for those cases.

Think I read about them on this forum somewhere, so maybe someway will chip in who has experience with them. FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Good choice in keeping the FL2.

Splashing a little cash on it and giving her a few mods is the right thing to do.
That'll confirm with your that you've made the right decision.

I bought my Wood company armrest on Ebay, simply because I wasn't sure about the colour match and I could return it if I didn't like it, where as I don't know if you can return it to the Italian company. Anyway, the armrest is very good. One screw fastens it in place. Nice little bit of storage. I lean on it when getting in the car and the wife likes it to rest her arm on it when i'm driving. Colour match is not 100% to the seats (mine is Ebony black) but is very close. All in all i'm happy with the armrest. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

United States 2010 LR2 i6 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Yanwoo,

Great post! Thumbs Up Can definitely relate.

Recently found myself in our Freelander2/LR2 (I6 HSE Tech) heading toward the local BMW X-drive event. Drove a decently spec'd 2015 diesel 2.0L BMW X3. Was rather underwhelmed! Crying or Very sad Just no comparison...on road! It was so average in feel and... oddly soft. Even in sport mode. Seats of nappa leather were not supportive. Tech screen was better...the rest was not.

So...I tried the X4. Shocked Bit sporty on road. Felt far too much like an X3.

So...I tried the X5. Idea 6 cylinder engine has improved. The rest...not so much.

So... I tried the X6. Wink Bit sportier, but just an odd bird.

In retrospect, while I enjoy BMW cars...their CUV's just don't compare well IMO with modern Land Rovers.

Time to spiff up the current rovers and keep them for a bit longer here. Maybe in the future, the Discovery Sport updates or reportedly upcoming mid-sizer (shared with Jaguar F-Pace?!) will get me riled up again.

In the mean time...shopping for new tires, winter wheels, roof racks, hitch, tailgate finishers, fog lamps, brush bar, nav update, seat covers, etc. Wait...you get 17in steel wheel options, diesel engines, manual transmissions, cloth seats, optional sunroofs and G4 kit! Censored
