Advice wanted regarding 2010 Freelander TD4 E GS

Hi there, new to forum. Got my eye on a 43,000 mile, 2010 TD4 E GS. All looks well, but I just want to know if I should be aware of any pitfalls or issues with this model. ANY replies will be welcomed. Thanks.

Lots of info on this forum but the perennial one seems to be rear diff problems. Make sure you get a warranty.

Don't see rear diff being a problem on a FWD car Whistle 2014 SE Loire Blue SD4 Auto (MY15)

TD4 E is a 2WD with the 2 Front wheels being the driven 2 - thus making it a FWD car 2014 SE Loire Blue SD4 Auto (MY15)

Hi Jim, my mistake. By mentioning FWD, I misunderstood it to be meaning 4WD (my mistake, sorry) Whistle

Isn't it the eD4 that is FWD only?

td4_e is 4WD with stop/start technology.
eD4 is the 2WD variant. FL2 2007 57 GS

One issue I have noticed with the TD4e (ie the 4WD stop/start model) on this forum is battery issues. Several threads on here where the stop/start does not perform as supposed/expected. Often put down to weak battery issues necessitating early battery replacement.

My stop-start hasn't worked for ages but that's probably because I have a dash cam linked through a 'power magic' type device.
I don't miss the stop-start function in all honesty. At least it gets you slightly cheaper road tax though Thumbs Up

main issues seem to be diff failure, clutch/dmf failure, tears in sides of leather seats

all happen regardless of age, mileage or use.

make sure you get a warranty

My Jan13 TD4 with stop-start has now passed 49,000 with no battery or stop-start issues to bother me.
I do notice that when I leave doors open for cleaning, it often says 'start engine or system will shut down' so it is sensitive to drop in battery voltage but seems to manage it itself (turning the engine back on when stationary for long periods of auto "stop". Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
