England 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Barolo Black

Got the jubilee clips and set to work this morning.
First thing I found was that the nut/fixing that is meant to hold the hose to the engine cover was missing, so that the hose could have been out of position or moving.

As I stripped the assembly down I also found that the original clip wasn't lying true and had trapped one of the guide lugs so probably wasn't even holding the hose on properly.

Whole area carefully degreased and washed, reassembled and run without any trace of leaking although I expect that I need to keep an eye on it over the next few weeks.

Many thanks to everybody who offered help and advice on this one. Very Happy

Only problem was actually fitting a nut onto the fixing clip and I had to take off the stub hose to get a 10mm extension socket in there. I can't believe that you're meant to remove this hose every time you take the engine cover off. No wonder the garage mechanic hadn't bothered replacing it.

If I hadn't dropped a screwdriver into the engine compartment meaning that I had to get the car up on to my ramps to remove/replace the under engine cover, I would have been finished in 90 minutes including cleaning and washing time.

Great result Thumbs Up What degreaser did you use, presumably with plenty of rags, as it has cleaned up really well?

I used Gunk Heavy Duty Aerosol. I've used that on motorbike engines before. Sprayed it on and then worked it in with an old brush. Sprayed more on. Rinsed off with water. Then the rags ....

400 miles since the repair and the jubilee clips seem to be holding their own. Razz Razz

Great! When you washed off with water did you cover any electrics over, was it a hose pipe? I have to do this on mine and would hate to cause more damage! Thanks.

Yes just a hose pipe and I covered the glow-plugs with a black bin bag and tried to be careful and didn't aim at anything electrical. There was still some puddles in the head that I dries using an old towel. I did consider spraying the injector area with Damp-start but in the end I just ran the engine with the cover off until it got up to temperature.

Unbelievable mod on latest FL2

This is the view under the bonnet on my new (to me) Freelander. Looks like Landrover have done away with the dodgy surclips and replaced them with good old jubilee clips. What a great idea.
