I decided to clean under the gear gaiter today. I pulled off the trim and took the wadding out. There lying down the side was a little bulb in its bulb holder and wired up.

It must be either for the gear selection indicator of the power socket.

Edit: as you have a manual model, it must be for the power socket.

The illumination has its own power supply.

It should come on with the lights. A picture would help.
