my (manual) gearlever has started to make a squeeking noise - when changing from neutral to 1st or 2nd gear - meaning movement towards the left hand side |

i read that somebody saw a tech. remove the cover by a sharp tug, but they didn't see what direction or judge the ammount of force needed.

The squeaking from the gear lever (mine also had a rubbery feel) is a known problem. I understand that in the past a new cable was fitted but now the solution is to use some special lubricant imported from Japan. My car had the work done last Thursday and the work was done by a Land Rover engineer as this fix as so new.
