Locking keys in a MY13

Question to those with a MY13 onwards. Colleague at work has lost his key, Thinks he drove back, switched off car. Then unable to find key but car locked. So, will car lock itself with key in it or has he locked it and lost key? Other scenario I guess is he's locked it, opened boot and left key in boot when he's shut it. Agsin will car allow you to do that?

if its like MY2008 then yes it is possible.
You can lock the car completely, then using the key fob just open the boot. When you shut the boot it automatically locks and the whole car is secure again.

So if he has locked it up, gone away, come back and opened the boot then shut it with the key inside then he is Censored

He will need the spare key or a specialist to get back in.

Our Disco is Keyless like the Freelander 2 MY13, it won't let me lock it if the key is inside the vehicle, it gives a Beep Beep warning but will not lock. How has he managed to lock it, unless the Fob is within range it shouldn't lock on the button? p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Went outside and sat in my MY13, pressing the fob once locked it and mirrors folded, pressing twice did the same and deadlocked the doors, unlocked again while sitting inside.
So yes you can lock it using fob from inside but obviously this is not what the OP did, as mentioned it could have been done by the boot access with keys left there or it was a normal lock and he's mislaid them.

D4 will lock with the keys inside. Happened to someone at work a couple of weeks ago. They'd locked it then opened the tailgate put the keys inside the boot and closed the tailgate and it locked.
Freelander 2 is exactly the same in that it is possible to lock the key inside.

The 'good news' is that if the key is in the vehicle it is possible for LRA/AA to gain access without doing damage to the vehicle.

I'm the lucky one then, just been and tried it again, opened the Tailgate, put the Fob on the mat, closed the Tailgate, it will not close fully, it pops out to the second open position with a little beep beep, open the Tailgate try again, it pops open to the second lock again, beep beep, remove the Fob, close the Tailgate, all closed and Locked. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The one at work was a 2014 model.
Took the nice man from the AA less than 10 minutes to gain entry.

AA came out to us at work for the same reason, plastic wedge, a couple of little Air Bags and a length of welding wire. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
