usually have one glass of sauvignon, then prefer a whisky and dry ginger.

I don't drink much but I'm a red wine person really, although I have started to sample rosè. We had a lovely bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at Christmas and since then I have also downed a nice Chianti and a Rioja.

We once sat down to eat at an outdoor restaurant/cafe in the Ramblas Barcelona, We chose from the wine list and the waiter ran into the nearest spar and bought the bottle

A lady who worked for me who wasn't into wine gave us a bottle of wine (one of six) that had been given to her husband by a client. We looked it up after we'd drunk half of with a Chinese take-away and chucked the other half down the sink. She told me they had had theirs with a splash of lemonade! I save the labels of memorable bottles (which I soak off and stick to the inside of our kitchen unit doors - sad, I know). She gave me two more. One bottle I tried bringing up to room temperature quickly with a 'wine warmer' ended up tasting like mulled wine. They were all VERY expensive ! It was this one http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/basse+gi...ly/1997/uk
I can only assume they hadn't been stored properly. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

There again it may not age very well and you now have destroyed any value in that year of that wine, someone now will have to open a bottle to to prove the vintage my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Wine - one of the many reasons I moved to France. With the exchange rate going the way it is I am having to drink more to keep up!

My mother in law had six unopened large Bollinger champagne bottles at the back of her cupboard which have been there for years so at Xmas so we decided to open one, it was flat so we opened another and then another and so on..... All 6 had gone off. They had all been stored on their sides so it wasn't that the corks had dried out. We couldn't find any dates on the bottles but I am guessing at least 20 + years. I thought this stuff lasted for years! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My dad was recently left around 200 bottles of vin, its basically laithwaites send every month for the last 10+ years, the total stash was around 600 bottles shared with others in the will.
