Porsche vs Freelander

Off topic I know but I visited the Porsche driver experience centre at Silverstone yesterday. You go around a test track with an instructor in a 911 and also do skid pan work. Performance of the cars absolutely unbelievable (try launch control where you rev the engine to over 7000 rpm and take your left foot off the brake and feel the G forces) but way beyond my capabilities. I didn't realise that any Porsche can stop from 60mph in half of its 0-60 time (so around 2 secs but you feel sick after a couple of goes).

Driving the Freelander down the A34 afterwards for the first few miles felt initially as if there was no power but I soon reverted to feeling what a great cruiser it is and much more useable in everyday life. Very Happy 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

A director at work test drove a Cayanne, he ended up getting a RRS. I was talking to the Porsche guy who turned up with the Cayanne and reckoned that the Porsche was better than the Freelander off road. I don't know if that is true or not but the Cayanne looked a quality motor. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Cayenne 1st Gen could be better offroad under some circumstances. It has low range gearbox and full lock of center and rear differentials. Also pneumatic supsension with big ground clearance when lifted. But's it's much haeavier than Freelander 2 and I am not sure about suspension travel of Cayenne 1.

Because of price and weight It's rather competitor for the Range Rover Sport.

I don't know about Cayenne 2nd Generation.

The Cayenne is based on the Touareg, which is very good off-road, particularly when fitted with air suspension, low range, etc. Personally, of the two I'd rather have the Touareg!

I know when the lad at work test drove a Cayanne last year it was the last of the old model. It came with loads of extra's. On paper it was better value for money than the RRS for a similar kind of price. I remember when the lad got the RRS. He nearly bumped into a wall at work. He said his front parking sensors wasn't working, I replied the RRS didn't have them fitted! He was quite shocked that a 60 grand car didn't have front sensors fitted as standard. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Off topic a bit, but a coworker has a 2010+ Porsche Cayenne. She has warned everyone off of them. Service is reportedly exhorbitant. Then they also give her a Toyota Corolla loaner! Rolling with laughter

Our Landie dealer isn't perfect, but they treat us very reasonably and always get us a Land Rover loaner during service.

Recently had a look inside the boot of a Porsche Macan. Censored No space in there for anything. And the media say the Freel2 boot is too small! Shocked Wait...you get 17in steel wheel options, diesel engines, manual transmissions, cloth seats, optional sunroofs and G4 kit! Censored
