Transfer Box

My TD4 (36k miles) has been at the dealers today with a problem diagnosed as a faulty transfer box. Symptom I noticed was a drone from the rear at 45mph.

This is getting fixed under warranty but while it is getting dome, I wondered if a faulty transfer box could in turn cause other problems, create excess wear on any other parts, affect the drive etc.

Reason I ask is the loan TD4 I had, albeit a 64 reg instead of my 60 reg, felt so much smoother with a lovely clutch. Bit of a shock getting back into mine!

Cheers

No idea about that, but the transfer box is at the front of the car?

Wasn't aware of that. Sounded like it was coming from the rear, maybe it wasn't. Always hard to tell when the noise is external. Unless this is going to go the same way as the other thread here that has the transfer then diff and bearings replaced in short time space. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

May be? Transfer box is on the middle line of the car and as far forward as the foot pedals.

I have no reason not to trust the dealer so assume they are right. I just wondered if something so important may cause other issues. After driving the loan car my own clutch is horrible. Would love to argue that the transfer box caused the problem Smile FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
