I am writing a Buying Guide for LRO and am hoping to get the thoughts of Freelander 2 Commercial owners on why they bought the Commercial, what is gets used for and how it performs. Nothing too wordy is needed, just a brief summary of what it is like to own. Your comments could be published in an upcoming issue of LRO along with a photo of you and your Land Rover.

Seems it's all Defenders, Discos & RR's.
There are a few 'off road' specced FL2's about you know

Always good to see Freelander 2s in LRO being used properly but it can't be printed if LRO doesn't know about it! Send your photos and a brief description to Mark Saville (in charge of vehicle features) to mark@lro.com. Once he knows what you've got and how you use it he can decide on the best way to feature it.

I have one which I bought a couple of months ago, I am really pleased with it.
I work as a self employed electrician and before this I had a Transit Connect. My reason for changing vehicles was that I wanted something that would be good for work and pleasure, plus I am more based at one site now so i don't need a fully racked out van.
Other options were the various pickups like the Hilux, but I find them to be too long and with the height and no side doors they are useless as a daily work vehicle for 90% of people that drive them. What you can't reach from the rear is blocked by all your other gear directly in front of you, so they are forever clambering over stuff or pulling stuff out of the back first to get to what you want.
With my FL2 I have 3 door access to the rear so I have a locking strong box for power tools in one side, other side is a space for work bag, lunch etc (place for dogs when not working), the rear is where my other tools, screw boxes etc are.
It has worked out well so far, although if I had to go back jobbing then I may have a problem with lack of space and racking for general stock.
Another good thing is the vehicle is not recognised by most as a work vehicle so it will be less likely to be targeted by thieves breaking in to steal tools, strong box would do a lot to help, but once they break in the damage is done.
The best thing is just having probably the nicest to drive commercial vehicle on the road, which gives me a bit of a lift when I am having a bad day, and i feel happier just driving to work and home than I did in my old Connect.
Down side is fuel consumption, my short journeys in heavy traffic, plus winter weather mean it is only averaging 25mpg with it's auto box.
Still on balance due to my low mileage I can except that, weighed against how much it lifts my spirits it is worth it.
if you work hard then you need a few treats to make it worth while.

FL2 2.2D XS commercial 09 reg,

I have had the vehicle for all on 12 months quite happy with it ,I use it for social and pleasure great car to drive , my hobbies are shooting and I find great off road plus the storage area in the back is as large as any vehicle I have had before ie - hi lux crew cab , defender, quite easily holds my double dog box and all shooting gear and no worries about messing back seats up . also one added bonus is when going to council tip skip yard I have no problems getting in they have no idea its a commercial, vans crew-cabs pick ups all need permits issued by the council.

Yes good point about the tip, I have made a few visits in mine without issue.
