My Swiss registered 2007 FL2 HSE headlights have adjustment levers inside for LH or RH driving, worked fine when visiting UK, not sure if this is available for all types of lights though?

This is how the lever works ...

So it's possible to use them with the flat beam, would that comply with MOT?

Thanks for the replays 👍
Sounds like I would have less light on the road than my halogens
Thanks again

Do the hid head lights have a tourist lever
Would they be a improvement over standard uk halogen headlights
Sorry for all the silly questions Mr. Green

Standard headlights did not have the lever. I have a 2007 HSE and the handbook told me I had "levers"...... lies, lies, lies!! A classic case of the "generic" handbook. John

Headlights with a flat beam will pass an MOT without issue, but they obviously won't have as good illumination on the road as you would lose the longer throw of the lights on the left hand verge. I have done this before and found it rather disconcerting on very dark country roads. It's okay for temporary driving such as going on holiday on the continent, but not for every day. It would be legal. But I wouldn't recommend it personally. Smile

Paula.

FWIW.

there is an ebay seller

partslandrover, where I purchased my xenons from when I did my upgrade
send him a message, he does not always list all the kit that he has.

If I recall I paid £300 for a UK set, with ballast and bulbs. ( early 2014)
My beam pattern looked fine, dip and main, and after fitting took the car
to a friendly MOT garage to have them aligned correctly.
edit, Xenons / Hids do not have the tourist leaver on the MY13's
AFAIK, this applies to all xenons

A dodgy subject. I have had a MY 07 and now an MY 13, with standard lights. Neither had the "tourist lever" as described in the handbook. Landrover insist that my current lights (projectors) have a flat beam and don't need adapting for foreign use (see another thread on here), but in fact they have a pronounced triangular throw and I would not take them abroad without deflectors. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I went through the process before taking my 13MY to Belgium last summer. Looked all over for the lever described in the handbook and even had both (BiXenon) headlight units out. Finally contacted the sparky at Ripon LR and he told me that there is no lever and the lights did not need attention for temporary use abroad. The asymmetric pattern is legal. Good news and got no flashes but I doubt you could fit LHD units to a UK car and use them permanently without someone at MOT or other motorists letting you know that it's not right Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Yep, the new style lights from MY13 onwards (Halogen and Xenon) have what JLR lighting designers refer to as the "Optical Tourist Solution". You can drive on either side of the road without any mechanical adjustment or covering the lenses with headlight beam deflectors and not cause dazzle to oncoming drivers. You wouldn't want to drive in the UK permanently with EU headlights or indeed on the continent with UK spec lights. It's not so much the oncoming drivers who would be annoyed, it's more from your own point of view as a driver. EU lights on UK roads don't light up the verge to the left hand side of the road and it's quite disconcerting. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, having done it myself. I ended up buying some new UK spec Xenons and swapping them, ..vision at night was vastly improved from the EU ones. Also, EU Xenons wouldn't pass a UK MOT as the beam cut off on the EU FL2 lights still rises to the right, which is not allowed.

Hello..

1st time here.. so thanks in advance for any input and advice.

I am in the process of matriculating - importing - our Freelander 2 2009 GS model to Portugal where I am now living.

All vehicles go through a rigorous test so they comply with the Portuguese regs..

I've checked to see if our vehicle has the lever to change light direction - but couldn't find any lever on either light unit: they are on the light unit yes, and not somewhere in the engine bay?

So will I have to buy a new set of right hand drive lights? Or as some have appeared to say the lights are legal for european driving?

I have halogens, not LED.

Thanks again,
Carlos
