Reversing

I reversed out of a parking bay that was on a slop. When I took my foot off of the accelerator the car rolled toward again, I haven't noticed this before, is this normal ? The car is an automatic Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Mine has done this on occasions, if you lift of the gas quickly it does roll back (or forwards should I say, as it happens when reversing up an incline) if the slope is steep enough. Feels quite alarming at first as being an auto you don't expect it.

If you can hold the revs at 1800+ it wont roll, not easy but around that point the haldex etc engages and it will hold.

auto hill start assist - press the brake pedel very firmly, the electric handbrake comes on, and releases when you press the go pedal Smile

Doesn't work in this scenario, this is what happens ...

handbrake on
Put car in R
set off, handbrake releases
reverse up the slope
release accelerator quickly and the car rolls forward Shocked

Multi storey ramps make a good practice ground

better to gently accelerate and let the car move off slowly and keep going, or use left foot over brake but that's an art to master when no one is looking Whistle

Taz is spot on re the scenario part from accelerating quickly , I was just moving & I wasn't sure if I saw someone behind me , so I took my foot off the accelerator and the car rolled forward. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

if find the SD4 engine is not as good at the old TD4 auto i had when it comes to reversing.

If i was reversing in the TD4, i would reverse to the top of my drive (on a incline) and get to the top and would ease off the gas to check if the road was clear, (easing off to stop moving but not going back forward) then apply gas as it was and the car would respond straight away

with the SD4 the reversing, same way as above, ease off the gas, car slows, apply gas and there is a delay with it moving off again,

Its not just my car either, all auto SD4 have been the same, i have been in about 10 of them since launch Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

tested again this AM.
No the parking light does not come on.
The electric brake holds the car for approx 2 seconds then automatically releases.
