United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Regarding DSC does anyone know how it compares in the earlier FL2s to say a new car, was very impressed with how it worked on the Gaydon trip in the Disco. How similar would that be to the DSC say in my 2007 FL2?

There may have been refinements, but I don't expect they are retro fitted even as software, may be done as part of a service, if they are then someone on here would know about it and there would be a topic. Changes could be caused by obsolescence of the processors and other chips thus forcing re-writes of the software that could have improvements. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Offshore 1987 - tyres that grip well in mud don't necessarily work well on a wet road. Things have improved over the last half century, but you are still asking the tyres to do completely different things and it has to be a compromise. To pull your dad out of a field you ideally need hard tyres with a bar, block or v-pattern tread, but to stop on a wet road you need softer rubber with longitudinal tread and efficient sypes.

Im not expecting them to do both things Thumbs Up Just funny how a road tire that the grabber uhp is at 4mm tread is so bad on wet conditions but some how worked well ( I expect the computer in mud and ruts had a 99% of the effort ) pulling my dad out

Coming from motorcross and then road bikes for many years then to proper offroading, its not hard to see how a lower tread is going to be so bad in wet conditions, just the fact that their is less space for the water to hold till its chucked out will try and lift the tire. that's how on mud a tire with less tread should just spin but credit to LR TR as it worked well Smile

I do like the idea of GGS mode though if its pooring down will give that a try Thumbs Up Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto

Wow lots to reply to here.

My tyres can't be more than 4 years old as the car is a facelift 2011. Don't know specific tread depths but no warnings on MOT a couple of months ago. Should really check.

Yes, the steering really pulled when I hit a deeper bit of water - I say deeper as there wasn't really any bit of the carriageway that wasn't sodding wet.

I was, to be honest, probably going too fast for the conditions which I will not be doing again.

As for the sliding on the snow, I was going round a sharp corner and the road was caked in hard snow. Again my inexperience would suggest I was probably too hard on the steering.

Learned a lot in the last few weeks, certainly.

Glad this was a worth while thread.

Defo confirm that the cruise control dis-engages automatically when you aqua-plane / hit large patches of standing water.

A recent trip back up from the in-laws on the M5 through Somerset saw the carriageway underwater practically in sections - cruise control off, heart rate through the roof! MY2010 TD4 HSE Santorini Black, 19" Alloys, Almond Leather, Lux Pack, Rear Spoiler, Adaptive Xenons

Serious noob question Steve - which one is GGS? Thought I knew until I looked at all the names and none would have the acronym...
