New legislation if going abroad

New legislation from April 1st 2015 for exit checks if travelling by Eurotunnel and I assume ferries, it requires advanced information by form with the details passed on to the Border Agency.

Bowing down to terrorists, we are prisoners in our own country.

It's the tens of thousands coming in they should have been concerned with over the years, who cares who leaves Evil or Very Mad

Useful info though Dave, gives people a heads up that queues will form Thumbs Up

Years ago the wife & I where going to France via Belgium on the super fast ferry from rosyth to zeebruge , I kid you not ,at rosyth docks the "security" guy asked me to pop the bonnet of my car and asked what was in there . I had to bite my tongue as I wanted to go on holiday .
I see a bit of a fly in the ointment with this legislation . Some day I would like to take my car and caravn to Europe to travel around for a few weeks . I would buy a one way ticket as I wouldn't be sure when I would be returning . It's always been an idea to book the tunnel a day in advance on leaveing France . I know I wouldn't be alone in this scenario , how is anyone going to get their details to ferry or tunnel operators in time? Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Reading other articles on it I believe the information is shared between Governments, so Border Agencies in all countries know in advance who is coming and going regards travel.

If it tightens security I have no problems with it but some may say 'Big Brother' to it. Smile

Which countries will have access to my Advance Passenger Information (API)?
Your Advance Passenger Information only will be passed to the UK Border Force and Home Office as it is only collected for the purpose of Exit Checks from the United Kingdom.

Last year as we went through the customs and security check at Poole, the officer asked if we had any sharp implements on board?

I opened the kitchen drawer!

Seems to be conflicting reports on this extra info, this British Airways Advanced Passenger Information.

The information you provide is sent securely to the necessary government authorities.

Some governments require us to provide them with information from customer flight bookings, and these will contain additional passenger details to those listed above.

The link you provided is very contradictory, the first question asks if 'you need to give the info' it doesn't answer it directly, it almosts seems as though you can decline and there is nothing they can do apart from delay your journey.
All very knee jerk really and a little farcical, they claim they need to know who is leaving when in reality they don't have a clue who is here Laughing

... and of course, in the finest traditions of British bureaucracy, how many of us will return from our Euro-adventures to be told at the border...

All the info they mention are on your passport, why would they want it in another form? Is everyone certain that the date of this supposed change isn't significant?

Because at airports the only check on the passport is the airline, Ferries there is a passport check , so I don't why one would need the API, regarding the tunnel I assume that is the same as the ferry, the Eurostar I have no idea. Only the government offices have passport readers, customs, immigration and security ( special branch/MI5) not airport security. I assume now they want early warning of who is leaving then if the information doesn't tie up there will be a tap on the shoulder and you will be asked to attend a side room my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
