Old aeroplanes get heavier & this will no doubt apply to cars. A typical 747 is about a tonne heavier at the end of it's life. It's simply due to ground in dirt. The additional weight affects fuel consumption thus decreasing MPG.

The same reasoning may come in handy for buying a new car! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
