Much has been made of the ease of three schoolgirl flying to Turkey to become Jihadi brides in Syria, but whose responsibility is it? There is blame on the security services for not stopping them, but the security services are responsible for our safety. These girls leaving the country are not a threat, coming back then may be, the airlines are responsible for their passengers and whether they constitute a risk to the airline or other passengers and whether the passengers have the correct documents for entering the country of the flight destination.
The main responsibility must be the parents, they are their children not the states children, they also attend a school where another girl also went to Syria and in the same school class year, Perhaps the school and the parents of that school should have looked more closely into their social contacts.
The security services may well have had information that they were showing an unhealthy interest in the activities in Syria, but it is their responsibility to monitor them, not to inform parents that their children are under surveillance and either tip off sympathetic parents or cause another outcry of invasion of privacy. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I agree with Dartman that there are many who have a responsibility. My thoughts are with their family and friends, I can't imagine what they are going through at the moment. It must be truly devastating.

This country has never been the same since the Vikings invaded in AD793. They came over here, looting and pillaging and making us drive Saabs and Volvos. It doesn't matter what colour or race you are, most parents don't know what their children are up to on their smart phones, mac's, xboxes or the like. We give kids these things with no limits on them when a lot of us don't even know what they can do. Some parents still think that Facebook and twitter are private conversations! If there was one thing I could opt to uninvent it would be so-called social media.

How many children from poor ethnic backgrounds have credit card that enable them to purchase airline tickets costing circa £150. How can children from a close knit ethnic community pack large travel bags without their parents or other family members knowing or asking questions. How can young girls coming from a close knit ethnic community that only allows chaperoned mixing of sexes and instils total obedience to parents get away with telling their father "I'm in a hurry".
