tv and dvd on hse

Having got my HSE i6 delivered, I was wandering if there is a tv accessory for the car. My dealer showed me a tv antenna at the left rear windows and a plug to use it (underneath), but I haven't found a tv land rover accessory yet. Does anyone know if there is one? I have got SatNav for my car, but I understan that I cannot use it for watching dvd's (let alone TV). Could I use the satvan screen to watch tv and dvd's. That would be great!

The sat nav uses a DVD for its information database - the DVD player is under the drivers seat. So all the hardware is in place. We just need an electronics whizz to tell us how to make it work! Someone must know. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Absolutely aggree with you nicam. The problem is that judging from the replies I got, not many people know how to do it (without destroying LR2 complex electronics that is).

Hey guys give us a hand out here! Bow down

Hi again defkalion!! As you know I have reorderd my replacement HSE as an auto but have deleted the DVD screens this time. I visited my local car audio specialist to explain that I get alot of transmission noise through the dealer fitted DVD package to my existing car. They said they have not fitted the correct supression or they have fitted the wires too close to other electrical components. So once i get the new auto car my first stop will be the specialist to have a DVD fiited which has an integral player mounted inside one of the head rests therefore less cables needed, as the existing needs a seperate DVD to be plugged in. Whilst I was in the store they did have a TV roof mounted system with a single screen for £550 GBP plus install!! OK it would not fit in a HSE with twin sunroofs but they do seem available. Just a shame the satnav screen cannot be adapted to view DVD's!!! Big Cry Big Cry

Carlfraz - will they be fitting the screens to your existing headrests then ? Out of interest, is it very expensive ? I was tempted to get an aftermarket fasten on screen, but I'm not keen to have wires running everywhere.

Boiledgnat,

I, like you, wanted cable free viewing, regrettably we still have wires to go from the portable DVD player to the jack sockets in the centre consol on the dealer fit screens. The local In-Car specialist said you get better value for money fitting an aftermarket model. He would tailer a package to whatever I wanted. We can either use existing headrests and he can mount screens in them, or better still, he said if you go for new wider headrests with the system already built in, not only do you get larger screens, but one can be a flip up screen behind which is the DVD player!! the other screen is then just a slave unit, all secure, all hidden, no cables whatsoever, and this could be supplied and fitted cheaper than the Landrover ones Thumbs Up He had fitted many Alpine systems to RR's & RRS's and my local dealer also agreed that he had done this for customers. I was concerned that the leather may be a different shade on the replacement head rests to the Alpaca I have on the car but the specialist said there are basically three colours within the car trade - Black, Grey and Cream and the match would be excellent. I viewed the flip up screen he mentioned and it looked ideal, albeit in black leather. So will be going back to see him in July when the replacement FL2 arrives. The company was Autotronix in Bedford (not a sales pitch as have not bought from them and have no connection to them) but I'm sure if you do a local search on the web you will find somebody closer to home.

Been and booked in for next Thursday, Alpine six stack DVD player going under the passenger seat,, two five inch screens going in the front head rests (existing headrests) as to get 7 inches means you need larger headrests and they look too big for the car, plus Freeview receiver and infra red remote alpine headphones. Cost £1,649. Ouch seems alot but when you consider L Rover want £1,045 for just the screens and headphones the extra six hundred quid ain't bad!! Install will take a day an a half

Asked the question about switching the satnav screen into the tv/ dvd system and it is possible....but, not this second....the guy said the gizmo he needs for the car is under development right now and should be available in 4-6 months.

Thanks for the update. Dont think I could stretch to a install as just paid out for the car but interesting to know that the sat nav screen should be able to be changed over. Just need to wait now. Patience has never been my strong point though! Laughing

Well?? Sorry for the delay in responding chaps been sat on the drive watching my 'Freeview TV' in the back of the car with a nice glass of Merlot Laughing Laughing , so, so sad Exclamation Exclamation Mr. Green Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Will post some pics tomorrow for you!! TV is a great picture whilst you get signal Sad , just like your home screen Very Happy . Between Bedford and Welligbvorough the picture kept cutting in and out Evil or Very Mad , yet in and round Bedford area the picture was more reliable and constant Smile . You have an aerial attached to the front windscreen and one in the opposite rear quarter window, again will post pics tomorow. I opted to have the sound configured via a little switch through the Alpine Stereo system which sounds great.........whilst receiving a signal Twisted Evil .......otherwise sounds like Norman Collier doing his dodgy microphone comedy sketch, which is really annoying as you are driving and can't see any picture as the audio cuts in and out. The reason I had it playing through the main speakers was that I was plagued again by supression problems on the infra red headphones, as per Land Rovers. The ICE guy was called this morning to tell him 'I was not impressed with this buzzing sound ' and the car will be back to them on Monday for fixing as he said there should be no engine transmission whine coming through the headphones, which was one problem I had with Land Rovers version.

However, the six discs multiplay dvd player sits under the passenger seat nicely with a six disc loading cartridge, as per the FL1 multi play cd cartridge. The kids can both watch the same DVD, or both watch TV, or one or other watch DVD whilst the other watches Freeview TV, both listening through headphones, by selecting channel 'A' or 'B', or one uses headphones whilst the other can listen through main speakers. If both choose to listen through headphones to DVD or TV the 'car' can listen to radio or CD through the main speakers. And the telephone still works and so dos the satnav...........at the moment Laughing Laughing Need to wait 4-6 months for the gizmo/ gadget to allow me to route the tv / dvd system through the satnav screen at the front, obviously only for the front passenger to watch Whistle Exclamation Exclamation Twisted Evil So apart from the buzzing in the headphones , which is fairly major, I am pleased, brilliant install, did have a nasty squeek, but found out the source, the mounting bracket for the DVD player under the passenger seat, so will get ICE specialist to sort this too on Monday. Considering what the car looked like on Thursday night, all the friggin trim panles missing I am amazed there is no more squeeks and rattles. Will take pickys tomorrow of all the parts for you, and keep you updated to progress regarding buzzing headphones Bow down Bow down

So I'm back out on the drive to watch more telly...night night Thumbs Up

Took the car back to Autotronix in Bedford, guys there whipped out the front passneger seat...rebolted the dvd player bracket into place, and put the seat back.

Was puzzled why the headphones 'buzzed as he said Alpine gear is normally great, but due to all the wires and amplifiers in the car with the dolby stereo he thought it must need 'supression'. Plugged the two supressors into the system - sodding great things, about half the size of a toilet role tube each one - and .......perfect, not a sond just sweet clear music and Sky sports Laughing Laughing . So Thanks LadsI am seriously one happy chap now Thumbs Up

Just need to get the wipe clean boot liner for the missis, ehh npinks & nightfox!!! Rolling with laughter
