Unless we are all missing the mysterious grommet, then it looks like this is normal, although it certainly looks odd that there is a hole into which grit/moisture/crisps could fall.

I've had what i assume is the turbo whistle, in that it makes a faint 'weeooow' sound when lifting off throttle to change gear.

It looks the same as this on my car MY13. No rust or corrosion either as I have barely used the car and it lives in a garage. I always use air-con when driving, summer and winter (with heat), so the air will be drier which may help. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device! I would like to know also how does it look like. Whistle sound is so irritating. As always service guy told me that it is normal.

All 'grommets' are different as my 2007 looks slightly different to those. Underneath the car is a gator that surrounds the steering column, yours must be ill fitting if it whistles? |

It's the turbo that whistles Rich, the grommet will stop the noise entering the cabin |

There is a rubber part inside the plastic collar visible from outside , its a couple cm inside. Ive made a photo from an angle and it is visible. So is there another additional available" above the floor" or this one seems to leak or there is another deeper ? |

Does anyone know if this seal can be fitted from within the car? Or do you have to get underneath?

Please see attached pic, this is my car, as you can see i have the seal but it is not fitted correct. I put some cloth in the gap and went for a spin. The noise i was getting had stopped.

from your picture valks1 it does look like a big grommet and that sounds a good plan from Foggy19 how to straighten it up.

Fitted mine correctly yesterday and it was a bit of a struggle to get the lip of the grommet to seat correctly all the way round, but persevered. I was getting a slight exhaust smell on start up, now all ok, although I probably need to investigate if there is a small leak somewhere, possibly on the turbo pipe? Fitting the grommet correctly definitely has a positive effect even if it is just to mask another issue! |
