After the discussion elsewhere on this forum about the news of stickers invalidating insurance, I emailed my insurer assuming they would do, as was sisggested on a Radio 2 discussion, say it was fine as long as they knew.

Quotemehappy.com response was simply that they will not insure a vehicle with ANY stickers, even wee ones inside the window. Remove or cancel policy.

So what about parking permits stuck on the inside of the windscreen?

I know - could easily argue it, even dealer stickers aren't factory fitted.

However, being the cautious type I am, is the right to a sticker worth the potential hassle if a claim arose?

I don't think I've yet had a car which hasn't come with a dealership sticker in the back window - presumably that would make the car uninsurable! I always remove such stickers, but most don't bother so are presumably driving without insurance.

One wonders what their thinking is:

* We don't want to insure the kinds of people who would put stickers on their cars.

* The muppet behind will be so busy reading the sticker he'll run into the back of you.

* We just don't like stickers, so we won't let you have any.

I think the argument is generally that someone may not agree with your choice of website/team/god etc and smash up your car, making yours a higher risk.

That is the only thing I can think of.

I emailed them back asking if they could clarify on parking permits, tax disc holders (semi-moot now) and dealership stickers. Will be interesting to see what they say.

If the insurance company is that picky, saying stickers are a no no, then you need to look elsewhere, in the event of a claim who knows what get outs they will use, vote with your feet.

I was considering the same - but you would need to check with any insurer you considered. May even get a different answer from the same insurer on different days.

Problem is if you ring up again and speak to another operator you may get a different response.

Insurance companies have got everybody paranoid about informing them about the minutest changes to their vehicles, which ties up their time, and they seem to have identified this as another revenue stream as they now seem to charge an 'Admin Fee' for updating your policy. I recently got charged £18 admin fee for a policy change despite being told it makes no difference to the policy price.

If I was to put something as innocuous as a Freel2 sticker on my car I would not be informing my insurance company about it, if I was involved in an accident and the insurance company tried to use that as a means of getting out of it I would quite happily go to court and watch them explain to the judge why the sticker was a mitigating factor.

If on the other hand I put loads of stickers on my car which were an insult to certain segments of society and then went and parked in one of those areas and my car got smashed in I would not expect to get paid out.

I think you have to weigh up what it is you are doing.

If you walked round town with a 'look at me' slogan on your t shirt , somebody would soon have an issue about it,, so leaving the slogan on your parked car and expecting the same insurance cover as a plain clothed car is asking a bit much.


Although to a ' non believer' freel2 must be a odd thing to stick on your car, it could mean anything.


I do note that foolish people have a badge saying stratstones on their car.
