Return of The Knock!

I had thought the annoying knocking / Twanging noise had gone but it has returned!. It seems okay when we have hot(ish) weather but this morning it was abit nippy first thing and the knocking was back, seems as though it is weather dependant. I still think it is a piece ot plastic trim knocking against something - could it be expanding in the heat to get a tight fit and contracting in the cold thus knocking? (or am i being too scientific??) It is definately not a suspension issue (according to the service dept). anyone any ideas?

rear latch

Hi i had a very similar knocking from the back sorted last Monday. Turns out it's the latch the rear door locks into, the latch was fitted too far forward so the door can bounce slightly over rough roads or pot holes, the garage set the latch back slightly and adjusted the rubber stops at the side of the latch it's been fine since.

This noise did sound a lot like trim or even the suspension!!

Hope this helps....

the sound appears to come from an area behind the drivers seat to the right, i have always assumed it to be the rear side door, could it be same symptoms as the boot latch? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Hi

You really need to get someone in the back and take it out over good and bad roads to try and pinpoint whether it's the rear door or a rear passenger door, these noises can be tricky to isolate, so it's best to have a good idea what you think it is before taking it back to the garage.

It could be the same latch problem i had, try gently pressing the rear door if it makes a noticable creak when closed it'll be the latch most probably.

cheers hon3009
