New gearbox

Hi guys

Just had my 75k service done at Steve hill Landrover and mentioned to them a problem I had regarding noise and slight vibration from wheels. I have been told I need a new gearbox as mine has broken down and only a matter of time before it completely goes bust, is this a common problem the car is 2009 auto td4 with 72,000 miles full service history with Landrover, do I have any ground to go back to Landrover or can anybody point me in the right direction as to what to do

Thanks Ben

Very uncommon, I would say. Try a PM to Ryan (see the LR Customer Relations forum on this site).

You may find a transmission specialist would be able to rebuild your existing gearbox for a lot less than the cost of a replacement from LR.

are they saying the noise is related to the gearbox? Sophie Alltoft

Thanks guys
They problem is down as ird pinion bearing broken up and leaking oil, cost to repair is new gearbox from landrover 2 year warranty and fitted by Steve hill landrover for £1700 seems reasonable but surely a full serviced car with 73k on it shouldn't have this problem! I'm based in bristol haven't spoke to landrover as of yet but maybe a call to them tomorrow will be interesting to see what they make of it

"IRD", how you name it, is a separate hardware/item from the gearbox.
It can be changed separately, not with the entire gearbox.

I had a whining that started in 4th gear then spread to them all. Gearbox was toast and replaced with recon unit under warranty as l had bought second hand and was within warranty period. Car had done 95000 miles...
