I have downloaded a pre release copy of Windows 10 from the Microsoft website onto a spare laptop. Lots of Windows 7 features so looking good and I understand that it will be a free upgrade to 7/8

Anyone for Dos 5 ?

I have Win 8.1 on a laptop and I have come to like it.

I have Win 10 (or Windows Technical Preview as it was when released to dev community) on a test PC, have had it for some weeks now and it is very good, very stable... some probs (GPU compatibility, loss of screen if you switch user) because it's very beta but generally it's solid as a rock and I think it will attract users, especially if Win 7 / 8 users can migrate for free.

There was a lot of hoo-hah about losing the Start menu in Win 8 so MS have responded. The start menu in Win 10 is excellent and merges the 'Metro' tile screen with the traditional desktop environment.

Several updates have been issued and all install simply & work.

I had Win 7 on the PC, and when I installed Win 10, the install went really well, kept all my software (Office etc), all my browser settings etc. A very nice experience. ...

It's good to know it went well, we have a copy at the office but I havnt got round to loading it yet, most of our clients are on 7, many still XP, Banging Head
I wonder if MS have there act together now, just as crapple seem to be going flaky with update after update, maybe the tide is turning?

8.1 is becoming more manageable as I change more defaults to avoid the programmes that lay over the windows taking over the screen

what is the plus side of the ' metro' style page? At work

The 'metro' style is what MSFT wants to deliver a common look and feel to all devices - PCs, smartphones (running WP natch), windows tablets etc. and reflects a move towards 'apps'. I personally like the 'metro' look and happily open software from it.
But as soon as you go online via the web, you are booted into a good ol' desktop & browser.

Personally the metro screen is currently without a real purpose other than to, as I say, allow the creation of a common interface. ...

but apps from the metrosexual page open their own internet browser etc, which on my wifes laptop atleast dont seem to be able to access wifi so simply stall and jam up the system. At work

Which apps?
And presumably you can see the WLAN is running in the taskbar?
If so, suggests a weird problem. Needs more info ...
