United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey
OEM Garmin bracket

At the Motor Show yesterday on the Garmin stand was a Land Rover Garmin on display, this unit is the one fitted to the Defender SVX but in the blurp underneath it says it is also designed for the Freelander II. Talking to the guy on the stand he said that Garmin were designing different brackets as OEM fits for many vehicles including Land Rover and that the system and/or bracket would be available through Land Rover.

Going back to the Land Rover stand the staff although helpful did not know of this Garmin system or where it might fit. I should have taken a picture of the unit on the Garmin stand but if anybody knows of this system and where it might fit I would be interested.

Thanks.

GWO, I guess you are talking about in-built satnav systems for the models where this doesn't come as an option or standard.

Sorry, I cannot help you there, but you may be interested to see how easily I have mounted a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx and a Mio PDA (with GPS receiver and moving Ordnance Survey map) in my FL2. Apologies of the out-of-focus photos.

Both these gadgets unclip very easily from the standard Garmin bases when I leave the vehicle. I have used the Garmin non-permanent adhesive pads to hold the bases in place.

I had both of these long before I had the FL2, but still find the Mio very useful, as it shows me where I am on a 'real' map, not on a series of vectors indicating roads! Quite useful if you don't happen to be on a road!

The 60CSx still has a lot of destinations stored which I only occasionally visit, and so have not yet put them in the FL2 satnav. It also provides a lot of other information (e.g. I can download a tracklog of an off-roading foray), and I have used the speed readout to confirm that the speedo of my FL2 is pretty accurate. I can also mark points of interest as waypoints very easily on this unit.

Sorry that I haven't been able to answer your specific question, however! 2007 Baltic Blue SE TD4 Auto

I've seen the Garmin Nüvi 760 mount in the Defender. It is clearly designed for that car and won't fit in the Freelander 2.
The Nüvi 6 serie-mount fits very well where the original GPS normally is placed (using the Garmin self adhesive "dashboard disk").
The mount of the Nüvi 760 however is different: contrary to the one of 6-series it isn't possible to mount the GPS in a vertical position. As this is due to the bottom of the GPS box that declines to the front of the car, I made a support that compensates this.
I prefer this solution as - apart from the much lower price compared to the one of the original GPS - I find it the biggest advantage of an after sales GPS that it can be removed from the car. (to be uploaded on a PC, used in another car or during a walk, etc)

The pictures below show how it looks like:
