Noisy diff, anybody had it fixed Sydney or newcastle area ?

Hi . Our freelander 2 has a noisy diff which I believe from the forum is common. 2009 model so out of warranty, so looking for somewhere that is familiar with this job, but not a dealer. If I can't find anywhere, I have an option of getting a rebuilt diff from uk and bringing it over, but would rather just have it done locally. Any suggestions gratefully received. The whole job at a UK Indy is about 500 pounds, but I guess here in aus it will be 4 times that price as usual.

Cheers. Freelander 2, Nissan Elgrand Autech Rider.

Try Bruce Davis Performance Landys at Annangrove. He knows Land Rovers and is independent, not sure of price.

Hi Spuddyo,
No help with location I'm afraid, but I had my rear diff replaced by a Land Rover dealer in Melbourne last year, $2500 -not quite four times the price, but dear enough!

Cheers.

Diff Rebuild - all done.

It may help someone down the track, I eventually bit the bullet and had the diff rebuilt in Sydney at a total cost of $1650. It was a drive in / drive out job, diff removed, all bearings and seals replaced, new fluid in the diff and Haldex unit. 20,000km warranty and a job well done all in one day.

The place was called Award Diffs in Seven Hills. Apparently they do at least one Landrover diff a week so have lots of experience and know their stuff. Diff is really quiet now, no more howling from the back seat. Freelander 2, Nissan Elgrand Autech Rider.

Just be aware from others on the forum that the noisy diff can also be a transfer box problem, my dealer replaced both at the same time under extended warranty which fixed it for about 500 miles and then the noise came back but this time it was a wheel bearing. All quiet now. So make sure you are fixing the right part. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
