To answer your question: the DPF cleaning process is based on a technology which is in the middle of development, and virtually all car manufacturers do have their problems with regard to reliability. On our Freely 2 the DPF cleaning process should start automatically, and takes 5 to 7 minutes to complete. Fuel consumption increases during the DPF cleaning by about 0,1 to 0,2 litres, as addl. diesel is injected to increase the temperature in the exhaust system to effectively burn the soot.
As I have said, this is todays technology, and it should work well if all systems are functioning. Unfortunately, in some early Freely 2's the exhaust pressure sensing devices have been malfunctioning ( tolerances too narrow) due to uneffective quality assurance of one manufacturer. LR has therefor advised the dealers to replace such pressure sensors if found to be defective. The pressure sensors measure the the pressure of the exhaust fume going into the exhaust pipe, and the pressure of the fumes coming out of the exhaust pipe. If the difference exceeds a certain value the electronics assume that the DPF is full, and the DPF cleaning process is activated. Normally you will not notice this other than a slight smell of burned rubber.

I've driven around 15.000Km and have never seen a message about the DPF - I drive mostly Autobahn - is it cleaning itself with high speed driving? Which driving condition clogs up the DPF more? - Mike

My dealer did not got any information from UK to replace abnormal exhaust pressure sensor.

Do you have any suggestion to verify my sensor of LR2 functioning well or not?

Dear Charvis-tu, if your Freelander 2 has been manufactured after August 2007 you may be lucky and the better pressure sensors have been installed. If you still have problems with the DPF (reduced engine performance) I advise you to check if the electronic up-date of the motor management has been installed in your vehicle (release date by Landrover: September 10, 2007). If yes, but you should still have problems with your DPF, I strongly advise you to change the motor oil against a modern DPF-compatible motor oil such as Shell Helix Ultra "E" 5W30 or Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5W30 or similar oils according to ACEA C3. The Landrover approved motor oils according to Ford norm 913B (so called A-1 oils) ARE NOT suitable for diesel engines with DPF. Unfortunately Landrover will not recognise this fact.
I further advise from very long experience that you add a good two-stroke motor oil (2-T oil) in the dosis of 1:200 to your diesel. The 2-T oil must apply to JASO FB (low smoke) or FC (very low smoke). The 2-T oil will grease and clean the high pressure pump and the injectors, so avoiding clogging by diesel soot. Sorry for my less description! (refer to my previous post)
I have suffered 5 times "reduced engine performance" whenever high speed and rainy day (raining hard by much water on the road).

The first 2 cases happened in Aug'07 after getting my new FR2 only one month (~400km). Of course It still did not revise new program (Sep-07).

In Oct'07 I am informed to upgrade the program to fix non-start/ trip reset & reduced engine performance issues. It did let me believe the Reduced-Engine-Performance issue is far away from me untill Jun'08. (~25000km)

My local dealer has confirmed my situatin is no DFP full (7.5 gram) and no fuel empty (> half tank fuel)
Besides no one in Taiwan claimed this issue to them so far. (My car should not be the most early manufactued in UK?)

DPF has re-calibrate by program in Jul'08. But they did not get the exhaust differential prssure sensor issue from UK that you mentioned that call-back to replace in Germany.

Since my car was manufactured before Sep'07, it means the sensors must be malfunctioned.
How can I to prove my sensor condition to be replace by warranty? or any othe suggestion?

Hi Charvis, your description is excacly what I have experienced, and at the end malfunctioning pressure sensors have caused the problem. Change of the two sensors against the improved version has cured the problem. Landrover offers on its internet home-page a list of technical bulletins with regard to reported problems and the recommended technical cure/improvements. In the meantime, there are quite some numbers of such techn. bulletins. The checking and replacement of the pressure sensing devices of TD4-engines with DPF is one of such bulletin, and I recommend that you advise your dealer/workshop to carefully read the technical instructions from Landrover.
Even though the technical bulletins are meant to assist the workshops, you can also visit the Landrover web-site under "www. Landrover.uk/owners information". You can look at the list of techn. bulletins and its release date, but you can not open the techn. instructions istself, which only your workshop can.
