Quieter engine on shut down

Just wondered if anyone would be able to shed any light on the above subject.

Quieter engine shut down on 2007 HSE 2.2
Nothing has changed with normal daily running

Thanks

What do you mean by quieter engine shut down? Do you mean that instead of stopping dead, it runs on ever so slightly? I had this when my EGR valve packed up.

Cheers guys but I'll have to analysis this further but I don't think its running slightly on when pressing the stop button.

Would purchasing an EGR valve cleaning kit fix it?

On mine, in common with others, the plastic teeth on the operating flap had stripped. No repair possible, just had to replace the whole thing. Costs just over £100 to buy new and pretty easy to fit.

Sorry Steve but are you talking about the throttle body and not EGR valve? http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic10246.htm...ottle+body

So just to recap - we're now talking about the throttle assembly?
The issue here is that I'm not getting the clunck but a smoother shut down transition.
I'm happy but has anyone experienced the same?

If your shutdown is smoother, then I would say that is an improvement so no need to worry. If you read the link I posted and that sounds similar then you may have an issue. Keep us updated Thumbs Up

I'm confused here, are we talking about the noise as the engine transitions from running to stopping or the noise immediately after it has stopped?

I'm referring to the smoother transition as soon as you press the start/stop button.
Don't get me wrong I like it but needed advice as it maybe something that needs further investigation.
Normally on shut down you get the diesel clunck but now it shuts down and you're waiting for the clunck but no clunck happens Very Happy

It might help if I can try and explain the correct shutdown, the 'throttle body' helps stop diesel 'run on' by closing off the air intake. When you press 'stop' the air flap closes and the engine rotation stops almost immediately, this is how it should be, if it runs on in a 'shaky, lumpy' manner then the air flap of the throttle body has not closed off and the usual suspect is stripped teeth.

Thats exactly what it was with mine. If the teeth strip, it fails in the permanently open position.

That's the thing there is no 'shaky, lumpy' manner anymore.

1. So if there was 'shaky, lumpy' manner we have an issue with the throttle assembly (teeth starting to wear)
2. If no 'shaky, lumpy' manner all the teeth have worn - this is why I'm getting a quieter shut down?

Cheers guys
