That's pretty crap luck. Seems to be a fairly easy fix and mine has been fine since the repair. Hope yours is too.

Just to follow up on my January 18 post:

As stated in my case this was a software problem

How do I know this? - well here we are in September and the car, gauge and fuel system has worked faultlessly since the software update nine months ago.

As I said, the info might be helpful to some, I never claimed that every fuel fault ever had by anyone anywhere was fixable with a software update. Just suggesting that perhaps it's worth looking at the software first before pulling the whole arse of the car apart.

My gauge was playing up earlier this year. It would drop from quarter full to empty. The Indy I used recommended a software update. Unfortunately this didn't work. The fix was replacing the wiring to the senders. There is a LR technical bulletin about it. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Got back to my freelander yesturday and set off home after leaving in station car park, noticed gauge showing half, sure that I had filled up last week and only done 80 miles. trip today to fill up and tank only took a few quid. Senders replaced some 18 months ago by stealers and no problems until now.
Just been and disconnect/reconnect the battery, everything working fine.......for now. Idea

Wow. long thread and a great read. I've got the same problem with my 2008 FL2 petrol.
It happened the day that I had my drivers side back seat down - fully flat.
Can I ask the forum if anyone else has similar timing / cause?

I'll post again tomorrow after I try
1. battery disconnect / reconnect
and
2. lift the rubber bung on under the seat and check the wiring

If the wiring of the sender unit works on OHMS (resistence) and it copped a hit it could explain the problem.

I've waited a week and the fuel gauge fix has worked. Disconnecting the battery for 10mins and re-connecting worked.

did the same on mine today. battery off for 10 mins and it is working more accurately than ever (even when I brimmed it it never showed totally full, and now it does)

Mine showed this fault yesterday. Fine first thing going out but when I got back in to it at the car park, low fuel light was on with gauge showing empty when I knew there was at least 1/4 tank in there. Decided to refuel, on the way to the filling station, the gauge became erratic then started to climb back to over 1/4 full, low fuel light went out. Refuelled (48L), gauge showed full but on the way home dropped to empty then back up to full again. Not used it today, will see how it behaves tomorrow! Access to LR topix technical bulletins?

Has anyone access to LR's website (topix) to download the relevant technical bulletins, I can see the relevant documents but can't read without subscribing and paying lots. See this screen shot

On the drive to Market Rasen the engine went into limp mode around Lincoln Crying or Very sad (fuel gauge was stuck at zero) Duckworths diagnosed internal tank wiring fault. LR Extended Warranty declined as "known LR fault". Dealer approached LRCS who authorised repair after 24hr wait. Tank sender replaced. Picked up car tonight - repaired at no cost to me.
