Stricken Car Transport Vessell

The stricken Car transporter, the Hoegh Osaka, lies at 45 degrees in the Solent carrying various models of car.
I don't know which models or manufacturers are involved but I imagine that a ship at that angle, its cargo wont be individually lashed in place and it will be a mess inside.

If there are Freelanders on there the customers may never get their cars as production has ended, Discovery Sport delivery times may also be affected if they are needing to be re built, its all supposition at this stage but an interesting question none the less.

Interesting how these ships work, the real name is Maersk Wind, so under long term bare boat charter to Wallem ship management, experts in car transportation. Maersk own a number of car transporters but all are chartered to various ship management companies. Her dead weight is about 17000tons and gross tonnage 51000 tons so about if full about 35000 tons of vehicles, some may not be new, some maybe trucks or buses, she has a 5.1 m entrance to the cargo decks. The question as whether she has any JLR products on board would depend where JLR or their customers (Local JLR franchises abroad) ship their cars from. There are many car ports Newcastle, Immingham, Bristol, Southampton, Tilbury and possibly others. I was once informed that there would seem no logic to the way car transporters operate, or the ports they load or unload cars. My son worked at Bristol docks as a maintenance engineer, he said they loaded and unloaded JLR cars all the time and sometimes the ships came from the continent with RHD cars unloaded but not destined for the UK market. So it may have JLR products onboard, some may be new, but where they are going is a lottery, Bremmerhaven may have been the next port but possibly that may have been another pick up and no delivery my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Tend to agree, the scolloped bonnet is the Vauxhall trade mark from late 1900's to early 60's my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

One wonders what problem would cause a car carrier to list so soon after leaving port.. The area is restricted in speed, so no high speed turns to upset the cargo, no low level doors as in a RoRo, so all that is left is some form of flooding due to the failure of a large seawater cooling valve inlet or trimming hull valve., either of the previous should be repairable in situ and the excess water pumped out. The vessel still has power as the RADAR is still running my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Depends on the contract, but will be an insurance company, I would have thought generally a low risk, but as in most marine incidents due care, standard practice all move the payout to or from various insurance companies, but I would assume that JLR would insure against Act of God risks, a well known marine get out clause. Lots of dodgy shipping companies with captains named God Laughing , though this is a very reputable company operating this ship my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
