I bought my secondhand '09 FL2 a few weeks ago from a franchised main deal (but not LR dealer). It came with their standard 3 month warranty, but as yet they haven't sent me the warranty details.

I am very pleased with the car but have had a few issues. It has struggled to start in the cold weather and I have had the HDC fail to start, looks like a classic case of knackered battery - a few tests with a meter have confirmed this. Also a small 2" split has appeared in the drivers side seat, again a know fault.

Question is...are these likely to be covered by the 3 month warranty? Suspect they would try and get out of this.

Need to read your warranty, if it was the LR Warranty then yes on the seat, but non franchised warranty can be useless, some cover very little, engine and gearbox at most.
Try a search on the Seat Squab, can be repaired or replaced .

Thanks, just wondering if there is any legal obligation above and beyond whatever is written in the warranty(which I'm still waiting for them to send)

I'd be disspointed with the battery and would be getting back to them, the Seat Squab, would if I had seen it at the time, pointed it out and want it repaired, or the cost of taken off the price at the very least.

Most after market warranties are termed "mechanical breakdown insurance" and does not cover any service or worn parts.
i.e. warped discs, noisy bearing etc. as they have not failed!!!

Plagued with these so called warranties when cars came to dealership with them and we had to refuse and refer them to warranty co., All FL2's (3) Gone

just found their warranty policy online - doesn't cover batteries or upholstery.

Just wondered if I had a case under the sale of goods act etc. I doubt I'd get anywhere on the seat but wondered if there could be an angle on the fact HDC is working intermittently. I noticed it seem to struggle a bit starting and the recent cold weather has obviously made it worse. What is the normal battery life on Freelanders?

Some batteries don't last long, I had one fail at 18 months, if yours is original then it's done well.
Don't scrimp on the replacement, I always prefer to get a better one than I need rather than just enough.

Agree with this.

Batteries only have a life of about 4 years and should really should be replaced if one wants to avoid breaking down. It will always happen at the worst possible time. Put in the largest one you can, especially for cold weather starting. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

It is original, however the misses' previous car battery was still perectly ok after 10 years!
