It involves putting them in an oven to soften the adhesive and then separating the glass from the body, black the reflector, then back in the oven to re fix, or apply new adhesive.

Thanks Taz sorry I should have said I have de-tangoed a D3 in the past. However I have heard that the current FL2 lights are a pig to separate I'm sure it was mentioned on here before and I could not find the thread to pick it up!

Perhaps you could cutout some 100% privacy tint and still over? Easily removed at a later stage. Save the template and I'll have some off you too! |

IIRC the reflector of either colour (MY14 or 15) in the FL headlight is a fill in for the light fitment used in the USA spec vehicles. Otherwise SWMBO's car doesn't have reflectors on the front, so I don't think it is a legal thing. As to separating the FL headlights, the glue/sealant is not a thermosoftening one so won't work in the oven - I tried on a scrap one. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Apparently Hella now use silicone sealant, LR lamps are Visteon, maybe they have gone the same route, if it is Silicone then they may well be neigh on impossible to seperate, especially as the surfaces will be keyed rather than flat. |
