As per Nicks comment buddy, as soon as ignition switched off the EPB automatically engages on my manual but I can disable it. Doesn't engage when ignition cuts for stop/start though. Different for automatics unfortunately... With manual transmission the EPB is applied automatically if the ignition is switched off and the vehicle speed is below 3 km/h (2 mph). To prevent automatic operation, when the vehicle is stationary, press and hold the EPB switch in the release position. Within 5 seconds, switch off the ignition and continue to hold the EPB switch for a further 2 seconds. With automatic transmission manual application of the EPB is required. |

I quite like the fact it's manually applied on the auto as I switched the automatic application off when I had a RRS to prevent the pads sticking after I'd cleaned the car and it had stood for a couple of days. |

The way I see it, its automatically applied on the manual version because if I remember correctly the engine can be switched off in neutral therefore preventing runaway. With the 'auto' the engine cannot be turned off unless the gearstick is in 'lock' which will prevent runaway, so we have the option and on my flat driveway I just leave it in transmission lock. |

Must have lived a charmed life, never have I had pads stuck to the discs, in all the years I've been involved in transport, the odd occasion Trailer Brakes have stuck, where the shoes had stuck to the drum, usually through lack of use, but that's all. Worry over nothing. Having it disabled will only mean it's likely to seize through lack of use. |

When parked in the garage I just leave the car in Park and do not apply the EPB. The car is not going to roll away. One less thing to wear out. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
