Haldex Unit, Life Expectancy?

Having just been quoted £2300 to replace it, begs the question, "What is the average length of service this unit should give?"

Our FL2 doesn't pull trailers, only does 3 to 5 miles a day, no off roading, nothing above 60mph, perfect gentile usage.

Thanks,

Barton

Why does it need replacing? Not many gave been completely changed, the vast majority have a new diff bearing.
Perfectly gentle usage doesn't necessarily mean it won't go wrong, they are designed to perform a role and 3-5 miles a day of gentile driving is asking for problems, the car is never getting warmed through and used.

Mine is 4 years old and has done 48500 miles. It did have the low level repair done under Warranty at about 30000 miles and has been fine since. The low level repair replaces the rear differential pinion bearing and its failure is usually marked by a whine from the rear of the vehicle.

As it is a known problem I'd be tempted to contact LR Customer Relations, explain the problem and ask for a contribution towards the repair. Ryan@LandRover is your man and can be found on the forum under LR Customer Relations.

I don't think Id expect problems like this from short journeys. From the very limited real info on this subject I think its an inherent weakness in the design. A particularly odd failure in what is mainly a fwd vehicle.

It does seem to be a weakness and can fail at any mileage, you're right it shouldn't be expected at such a low mileage.
The low mileage won't help other things such as the DPF which needs to be hot to function correctly.

As Richard stated, contacting LRCS is a good call, with such a low mileage and not long out of warranty it's worth a try.

If its oil/filter is changed regularly (about 30-40,000 miles, not like LR recommends) it should last forever.

Many thanks for all the replies.

I contacted LR Customer Relations, couple of weeks go, and have been offered a large percentage towards the overall cost, so still have to fork out a wad to pay the remainder.

Thank you again for your experiences and views,

Barton.
