Towing Weight Limits

Can anybody clear this up for me? My US spec 2008 LR2 is listed as being capable of towing 3500 US pounds. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see how much the diesel version can tow so I checked out LR's UK site. There it lists my same inline 6 gasoline model as being capable of towing 2000 kg, which if my math is correct is over 4400 US pounds.

Any thoughts?

Also, how critical is it not to exceed the 330 lb tongue weight limit? And finally, is the tongue weight limit different in the UK as well? I'm a newbie when it comes to this, and am having the dealer install a tow hitch receiver and electrical kit next month to pull a travel trailer.

Is that your house in your Avatur... cool..

I know nothing about towing though so cant help, esp if 'travel trailer' is a Americanism for caravan Neutral At work

in the UK all models have a limit of 2000kg for towing for braked trailers, 750kg for unbraked, and 175kg for the nose weight. The absolute max of car and trailer is 4505kg, and if you go over that in the UK then you are no longer legal, and you insurance would be invalid.

Unsure why it's listed as less for the US version, perhaps a legal issue?

Not sure as this helps much

Rich

Thanks for the replies. Maybe someone else has come across a possible explanation, so I'll keep checking the post.

Chicken george, I wish that was my house! That's the lighthouse at the eastern-most point in the US, in Lubec, Maine. Maine's got several beautiful lighthouses, though this one is by far my favorite.
