Are you sure that these guys know what they are doing? Thinking about the way that the DMF works I am surprised that the damage could be caused by it suddenly failing like that and I am left wondering whether they tightened up some bolts incorrectly. However, if the slave cylinder has been damaged then the damage will have come from its contact with the fingers of the pressure plate. I would have thought, therefore that the fingers themselves have been damaged/bent in the process. In addition I wonder if any damage to the gearbox input shaft/bearings might have occurred due to lateral loads on the shaft?

I would like to see the whole assembly before it is put back together otherwise you find yourself replacing everything again in a few months.

Overall, make sure you have a good guarantee on this job.

ps on jobs like this I always ask if I can have the old parts to take away. If nothing else you could take some photos for forum members to see.

Collected car today, it's fixed at last thanks god. It does now drive spot on and they did honour the agreemant of just paying for the dmf, so all in it cost £920 inc vat for clutch, slave, master cyl and dmf which I knowe is cheaper than I could have got it all done for anywhere else.
Fair enough it's been a massive load of agro, but they have guaranteed it and said that if anything else were to happen then they would indeed strip out the old parts, send them back to the supplier as they are under wrranty, replace with new and not charge me a penny, so can't really ask for more than that.
I was starting to consider changing it for something else, but sometimes it is best to keep it and run it for a while once you've spent a load on it rather than sell it on and let somebody else benefit.

I made the mistake of selling my Freelie after a breakdown and regretted it so much I came back after a few months later.

Sorry to sound negative but just because you have spent a load of cash on it doesn't mean that something else won't go wrong. After a series of other problems I had a Freelander clutch replaced last year and about 3 months later I started to have gearbox problems (it wasn't just cable adjustment it needed a box refurb or replacement). So at that point I decided to move it on.
