I've had many Defenders and Discos over the years but I've got older and needed some comfort,
I've been looking for a replacement for my little van for a while, as well as something that could tow my track car around
so after checking out the competition Its the freelander that's got the vote.
any way here's what I've gone for
A 2008 gs auto with 74k on the clock, not sure on the 19'' alloys so have already bought the replacements below

Never did update,
So the purchase of the black one fell through due to the dealer selling it being a dishonest turd, not Land Rover but Hyundai Barnsley,
any how a month on I purchased a Stornaway Grey 2007 GS
so far the work I've done is:
-New inlet Manifold for peace of mind, £131 (Shukers Land rover)
-4x new glow plugs eBay (£36)
-2013 18'' HSE Wheels that needed new tyres (ebay), Taztastic sorted the tyres out for me
-Mud flap kit fitted, (eBay)
-Full Genuine Engine filter kit (£66, Fuel, Oil, Pollen & Air) Armstrong Massey York
-Castrol edge 5-30 (2x4 litres) £70 from halfords on the trade card
-Extra Earth lead to starter motor (donated from a C Class Merc) found in bottom of My tool box.

To Do:
-Fit Parrot hands free
-Fit Rear window tints
-Save up for the Disco Sport I spotted in the showroom Today whilst buying Filters,
-Fit the 2011 Front bumper and tailgate handle when they are back from paint.

I made this Fuel bleed primer from fittings I cut off a old Citroen C5 at a scrap yard, Worked a treat!
It simply clips into the fuel pipe from the tank and the other end into the filter and bleed using the fuel form the tank so no chance of contamination.



Also when changing the Oil my pet hate is the black old oil left in the sump, So for the sake of 20 mins removed sump to clean properly before the fresh stuff went in, the oil is now golden :D

I can tell you are an experienced land rover owner from the home made tools! I hope you are enjoying the Freelander. I've had a defender and discovery 2 as a second car but couldn't quite live with either as a daily driver. The Freelander 2 is a nice compromise and perfect for my needs. Is it a long job to change the inlet manifold? I also have toyed with the idea of changing it as a preventative measure!

No, He has a tyre cutter, we just cut another 6mil of tread into the old ones
The inlet was fairly straight forward 2-3 hours if you are half handy with spanners, mostly due to just double and triple checking things, even if you're not handy a bit of time and patience will do it.

Well yesterday I finished work at lunch time so cracked on with the facelift travelled to Capital Autobodies in Wakefield (highly recommended) to collect the bumper and tailgate trim,
managed to get the bumper on yesterday afternoon before it got too dark,
then fitted the tailgate handle this morning,
I'm undecided on the rear lights the LED rear lights are ok but prefer the 2011-2012 rear lights so will keep an eye out for some of those on fleabay.

Looking very smart, its like getting a new car

The tyres will be fine, a couple of times the blade went a bit deep and nicked the canvas, drip a little rubber cement in and all was well

I recently found that the tyre company's are scamming us as if you go through the canvas there's another layer of rubber underneath to carry on a bit longer on

I don't know if it's already has been done before but looking at the nasty rear wiper arm in the picture above while fittings the tailgate handle yesterday got me thinking is there anything better? I didn't have to look far as parked behind the land rover on the driveway is a mk2 renault clio the arm and blade are the same size and fitting anyway heres what the new one looks like.
