That sounds just up my street. I am currently running a FL1. I joined the forum in preparation for getting a FL2, but then they announced it's demise, so I'm now weighing up all the options.
What's the "word on the street" about when the smaller model(s) might be released? Currently a FL1 owner.

United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black

Perhaps LR should have waited till the new engines were out till launching it or got their finger out & had the engine ready! One reason I bought the new Metropolis was I saw no point in ordering a brand new design of car with the old Freelander engine fitted then a year later when (assuming) the new engine arrives watch my DS Sport plummet in value! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

(Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding.

TG like it... http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/land-ro...2014-12-05

and it seeems to maintain LR heritage... "We tested it on some truly hideous Scottish terrain - boulder tracks, one-in-one mud slopes, knee-deep bog - and the Disco Sport clambered through the lot without complaint. The four-wheel-drive system slickly apportions torque to find any grip available, while both front and rear overhangs are surprisingly stubby, allowing the Sport to safely bob in and out of ditches you're convinced will ground nose or tail. Land Rover's always done this stuff better than the competition, and the Discovery Sport remains true to form." ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

Who cares what the reviews say, it may be gruff but it's solid and from my experience reliable. I would take any LR product over anything that comes from Germany.

The German car will always win over an LR product in car magazines. If it's not engine performance it's economy or it's the sat nav system.

Perhaps the new engines should've been in the DS from launch but at least Jaguar will take one for the team, get all the teething troubles out the way.

I very much doubt the DS will plummet in value because of a new engine, it didn't happen with the D3 when the D4 arrived and the 2.7TDV6 D4s didn't suffer against the 3.0ltr unit. I would be more worried about the Metropolis dropping like a stone, also no one worried about the Evoque being a brand new design with an old engine. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Who would you rather believe, a wet blanket mollycoddled motoring hack or your own instincts.
They get everything given to them on a plate and will make a judgement based on the best day out very little to do with the car. As for the gearbox comment, it's nonsense, the cars will be hammered around, lots of different drivers in and out, it's little wonder the gearbox didn't know what it was doing.

Would I spend £40k on what a magazine says?

But if you wanted a d4 manual it only came with the 2.7 engine and with the evoque again no other engine choice or in the pipeline at the time of production.

I should start by saying that I think that the Sport will also have the same success for Landrover as the Evoque.

Although I was initially prepared to order one, the lack of new engines, 7 seats and an over-sized wheel barrow wheel for a spare put me off. Having looked at all the competition, nothing offered anything that was really better than my Freelander other than a better spec Freelander.

So, on Tuesday I will pick up an ex-demo MY15 SD4 SE Tech in Orkney Grey to replace my TD4 GS.

When the Sport range expands, the new engines come on stream and the promised tow pack appears, I will then give it full consideration as a next replacement.

In the meantime, I will continue to have a smile on my face as I drive my new Freelander.
