Strange tyre wear on FL2s

Just had four new tyres fitted at a local tyre place, tyres bought through ASDA website at £117 (Wrangler 235/65 17).
One of the tyre guys came into the waiting room with one of my tyres. It was down to about 2.5 mm worn fairly evenly across the tread but he pointed out that on the outside the tread blocks were alternately worn high and low like a castellation and can cause a drumming noise (which I think we had). Evidently it's the fourth Freelander 2 tyre like that to have been in recently and one customer had gone back to LandRover (not the dealer since they just say get your wheels aligned) and they advised the dealer to do some test as there was a possibility of some problem in the 4 wheel drive system that was causing it. He did add that the problems was not necessarily on the axle with the worn tyre.

Has anyone come across this issue?

I had a similar problem on my D3
never really knew what caused it as I changed the tyres and alloys
it didn't reoccur on the new tyres but the only thing I changed was the front wishbones as they were worn, so put it down to suspension wear as the probable cause - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

Under or over inflation can cause this to happen. Are we talking front or rear here? Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

You are not going to believe this but I don't know! My son and I have identical cars and swapped some of our tyres and spares around a few months ago as he does more miles than me and it was easier for me to get the tyres replaced during the week as I am retired. I can't even be certain which car it was off!

Does this count as a Senior Moment?

It does as senior moments are allowed Thumbs Up

An educated guess would suggest it would be the passenger side front. This tyre gets more of a hammering due to the fact that we only go round islands one way and the edge of the tyre can feather.

Its nothing to worry about, but Continentals are one of the worst for it.

I would still have a full geometry check and adjust done anyway even if you don't suspect a fault.

I had mine done when I first bought it at 9 months old and it was slightly out on the left rear. So this was corrected which put the front out, so this was also adjusted, and it made a massive difference to the way the car drives.

The place I used also corner weighted the car before making adjustments, this is where the add weight in the car to replicated a driver and if needed a passenger and asked me to have half a tank of fuel. The difference was amazing.

General use will also throw a cars geometry out slightly. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I would guess its a internal leak in the shock absorber, causing the wheel/tyre to bounce very quickly at speed,
vauxhalls have a lot of trouble with it
