Increasing Ground Clearance

Hi People,

Anyone of you out there with modified FL 2 / LR 2 with regards to increasing its ground clearance?

I damaged my central exhaust system after the cat converter! And it now sounds like a Range Rover Sport!

I am planning to lift my Rig and fabricate undercarriage protection plates. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

HSE i6 2008.

i have heard there are lift kits available and have been talked about on here

Also a company called Mantec does under body protection but it is expensive Thumbs Up

I find the fuel tank to be rather exposed on my TD4 Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi

I've been looking for ages for things like this.

Only ever found http://www.matzker.de/index.php?cPath=30_37 who do lift kits, and allow you to fit LR3/Disco3 wheels with spacers.

and mantec, who do under body protection.

Hope this helps

If you've damaged your exhause, you could look at examples of what people have made for the FL1, as this was a common problem on it. http://www.dap-inc.com/acc/app/fre/fre_bar-guard-int-ext.shtml do some exhaust gaurds, as do mantec.

Let us know how you get on, if you do decide to do anything with regards to making your own protection kit.

Thanks

Rich

Mantec kit is expensive but it's very very good. It's wellmade and it fits propoerly with no modifications (in my experince). I fitted their steering guard on my G4 Discovery 2 and I'm seriously considering a sump guard and tank guard for my new FL2 which replaced it. The FL2 issue as I see it is that the minimum ground clearnance extends over quite an area whereas my Disco had min clearnace under the diffs and you could steer round bumps more easily. The OE sump guard is a bit of a token gesture and the tank is potentially exposed. FL2 is a load better than FL1 in this regard and the rear exhuast box is well tucked up out of the way by compairson.

I think your rear exhaust (and maybe the catalyst, if you need it) will be pretty costly so keep that in mind when comparing protection cost with repair cost.

Land Rover Experience North Yorkshire has 3 FL2 on the books, two have Mantec sump and tank guards, and one is as per showroom for the basic ride-and-drive days as opposed to off-road training. Bear in mind that when you fit underbody protection, you lower the ground clearance by about 10-15 mm in places so you are more likely to get a touch but then it does no harm.

Hi people FL2 owners!

Very good news coming your way. I've sent my rig to an expert mechanic. Told him of the problems with ground clearance and underbody protection. I left my car there for about a week now and it'll take at least another 4 days to complete. He needed time to custom make and take accurate dimensions of part to be fabricated. Guess what i saw? He fabricated the engine oil sump guard! The fuel tank guard! and several other stuff. Also he lifted the rig to increase the ground clearance! It looks amazing. Good quality work! Once the car is out i will test it out and post pictures!

Blessings!
