Hi all,

Just put a set of Osram Nightbreaker bulbs in the headlights - but now I'm not sure the headlights are sitting right. There is a 3-4mm gap between the bottom of the headlight unit and the front panel. I can;t remember ifi t was there before I did the lights. Can someone have a look and tell me if there is any gap between the bottom of the headlights and the front panel.

Hi there cobber just looked at mine and yes there is indeed about a quarter inch gap so yours is fine.

I had the same issue with mine, after my son changed them for me.

Turns out the bottom clips weren't fully engaged - try pushing the bottom in. Steve

Hmmm.. did you need to use much force to get the bottom clips in, Steve?

You do need to push in the bottom of the headlight until it engages. Might I suggest you take out the two top bolts again and see if the headlight floats out free? That would indicate whether or not you have engaged the bottom clip.

So just one (central) bottom clip - not clips? I've definately engaged the central clip but still have a slight gap.

If you are talking about this gap, its normal.

Hi, I'm having the same bother. My f/n/s light is pointing way too high and I cannot adjust it from the driving seat now.... Any thoughts?

Remove the headlight and recheck the fittings, something hasn't gone back together quite right.

I would have concerns over your comment 'cant adjust it from the drivers seat'
First open the bonnet and have yourself by the offending headlight. get an assistant to scroll the lift lower adjuster. first you should hear a noise to know that the adjuster electric motor is working. if not then the motor or wiring is suspect. Now if the motor IS working look at the chrome reflector inside the headlight, you should see if moving in and out at the bottom as your assistant scroll the adjuster. If it moves as it should then you've probably not clipped the headlight fully in to its holder on the car. if it doesn't move yet audibly the motor is working then you have used to much force putting a bulb in and you have detached / broken the adjuster mechanism inside the lamp. The electric motor drives a screw thread which has a ball on the end. The ball clips in to a ball holder on the chrome reflector, its sometimes easy to have detached the ball from its socket; if so you need a bent piece of wire to hook the reflector and pull it back to put the ball back in its socket.

Hi Taz, ive been spending too much time in the workshop making tooling for parts I need restoring 1950's Austin J40 pedal cars! plus The Freelie has turned out to be so good, we've just been to Norfolk, tows the van wonderfully.

Now back to topic, for anybody changing bulbs for Nighbreakers you have to be doubly careful. Its all to easy to have the bulbs incorrectly seated in their holder yet you think that you've clipped them in. This will also lead to the 'burn spot' of the bulb being wrongly placed in the reflector and give daft beam patterns. secondly do be aware that if you are naturally ham fisted then do please get somebody else to do the delicate bit of bulb changing as if you do more that unseat the adjuster ball from its socket then you might be in to buying a new headlight.

I should have said in the previous note that the reflector is also held by two more ball and sockets, both are on manual adjusters for beam correction adjustment and both can be unseated.

Common MOT headlamp alignment failure is due to H7 bulbs incorrectly seated. Rectified "too many to count" over the years. The older twin filament H4 was easy to fit, H7 can easily be fitted 1/2 turn out.
This is most evident when you meet oncoming traffic with 1 headlamp pointing straight at you.
FL2 has
Launch till face lift 4 x H7
2011 till 2013 2xH7 and 2xH11 Early 2011 handbooks were wrong stating 4xH11
2013 on 2 x HB3 All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.
